It depends on the bistro, and what city. It probably won't be unusual to call the place and ask the hostess what the attire is, explaining that you have never been there before. That is probably the simplest and surest way to find out.

Definately casual, bistros are perfect for that sunny afternoon day. The food is authentic, but in more of a lunch way.

A bistro is usually a small local restaurant, relatively casual, trendy food.

A bistro is not fancy. As long as you are comfortable and look semi decent you are fine.

causual, informal, comfortable, relaxing, but not to revealing attire is great. you can wear dressy if you prefer, heels, or flats, it also depends on the time of day and the day of the week, who you are going with(male/female),is this this a business occassion or pleasure?? just a few things to consider. if you wear gloves make sure they are leather
and that they match either your bag or hat.

Business attire or "dressy casual" would be appropriate for most any eating establishment.
