Hey,
Relax!
Weimaraners often have blue eyes.
Puppies often sniff rather than look.
If you can think back (which most of us can't), we used to put things in our mouths before we looked a them!
It's all good. Enjoy your puppy, and dont;' let anybody give you 'advice'.
Yes, I know I'm 'giving advice' here, but consider this:
CHeck what you read with how you feel.

hi, sounds like your friend must be on the older side?? if so, i am gonna say she has cataract on her eyes. this usually causes a white film over the eyes. generally it will appear in 1 eye, then both eyes. if this is the case, she is having trouble seeing & this is why she would be sniffing you. if i'm not mistaken, a vet (may) be able to do surgery, however i'm not 100% sure. it can also appear to be a glare in her eyes, not only a white film. this is just a sign of getting older as ppl have the same signs.
now this is bad; my aunt had a dog once that his eyes were so bad, he litterly could not hardly see anything. anyways, he was over at our house one day. my mom had gotten into an argument with someone and when she started to walk off, (the dog was bout blind) he hiked his leg and peed on my mother's leg right in front of whom she was aurguing with. talk about being embarrassed... awhile after that, my dad was outside working and the same dog hiked his leg on my dad as well. guess his sniffer was going bad too, lol....
my friend is 11 yrs old and the past year or so i've noticed her eyes doing the same thing.
wish your friend well and hope her sniffer works well, for your sake... lol

Whether or not what people think don't let it alarm you. Your puppy can always be checked out at the veterinarians, and also try a few eye tests yourself. When you are kicking back (so the puppy is relaxed) call the puppy and use a treat in front of Munchckin's face and slowly move it back and forth, or a favourite toy. If Munchckin responded well (probably smell helped) try a small obstacle course. And don't worry because some dogs do have full blindness and fight fires.

How old is your dog? Old dogs do sometimes get cataracts and yes, they cause blindness. But if your dog is young, that probably isn't the problem.

If you are really concerned, bring her to a vet. She might have an eye injury or infection and that can be VERY painful.

Blind dogs can manage very well but you will need to learn how to help her. Again, talk to your vet, he is the expert.

Good luck.

Munchkin is not necessarily blind. Weimereiners have very light eyes. You might try this. When he's calm, drop a cotton ball in front of him, if he follows it with his eyes, you'll know that he can see. The color would help him see it, and it's soft so that the noise of it hitting the ground would not cause him to react. Good luck!

It sounds like your puppy does have cataracts. Whilst it is common in older dogs, many puppies can also have them. My dog is 5mths old and we have just discovered she has cataracts. There is treatment available however it is costly, don't be too alarmed though as sight can be considered a dog's third sense. If you are still concerned (as I was with my dog) I suggest that you see an animal Opthomoligts - they specialise in animal eye care and can provide you with detailed information.

Yes. that is a sign of blindness. when she sniffs you before running, that means that her sniffing is better than her seeing. She wants to make sure its u.
