The 35,000 troops that have been alerted for deployment recently that you've heard about in the news are due for a normal rotation in the late summer or fall of this year.
Try to take what you hear and see on the news with a grain of salt, they have a way of skewing information into the worst possible interpretation.

This is part of the "surge" that is supposed to stabilize conditions in Iraq. It is not meant to be 1-for-1 replacement for troops already there. In fact, the standard tour of duty has been extended. I think from 12 months to 15 months. It's sounding more and more like Viet Nam from my era. For anyone who cares, yes, I am a veteran.
