I'm trying to help my mom with this remotely and maybe someone else knows how to use this or has the manual.
She just wants to record a program on ch 20. So:
The TV is on chanel 3, but she can't see a picture on the screen so I'm sure it has something to do with setting the VCR in TV mode. I've done it before (I thought it was the TV/VCR button) but I'm not sure. Please help.

This is an older setup. We do know that the VCR output works on ch 3 because she is able to play video tapes with the tv set to ch 3. I don't know the exact tv and vcr models but the remote might give a clue to someone who is already familiar with it. It's a Toshiba vcr. and the cable input goes into the vcr and the vcr output signal goes to the tv input .

well this depends on the tv as well. most tvs now don't use channel 3 (since now it is an actually channel) they use things like video1, video 2 etc. turn on your VCR and see if you can get the picture to show when the VCR is on go from there. give us the model of the TV too and the VCR that you have.

Turn on both the VCR and the TV
set the TV to ch 3
Put a tape on the VCR, make sure it plays on the TV
If that works
Take out the tape, the VCR should be now in "TV" mode. Use ch+/ch- on the VCR remote to find the channel you want.
You should be able to see that channel on TV. If you can, press REC to record or program the VCR to record at the given time.

If you can't see the TV channels via the VCR, go to the VCR menu and do a new channel scan.

once you have plugged the scart from the vcr into television, and the aerial cable from the wall socket to vcr, then vcr to television. then you definately've the splendid cabling. Now turn television on, and vcr. press the av ( source ) button on your television distant. this might then be the two a blue show ( if vcr isn't tuned ) or tutor even if proggramme there is that in case you vcr is tuned. IF not tuned press the menu button on the vcr distant, flow to place in enable it " test " for the channels, then keep. while ever you opt to checklist a programme, flow to the vcr menu button, choose recording time. flow stressful the preparation, picking channel, time and day. wish this helps wg
