This is a delicate situation. If on the one hand you have a blubbering fellow who has a lot of stories, then he needs to consider his place in life while he sips his coffee. This is the guy who farts. If on the other hand you have a young perfectly hosed female and you're running a shot into the bank, then I'd say forget the fart and live with it. If you've got the minivan that the ex gets on weekends then I'd say trash it, go to Orlando and make it disappear. It seems to be all about the car. If I were a businessman, riding in the same car as you, I'd fart real loud and take over the armrest while keeping you on the road. It's a small sliver of whose in charge while not really driving. That guy will pass out.

Whomever needs it most. Sensibly, if there is an older passenger and they need the armrest for comfort and balance, they should get it. If it is a choice between two young adults, its their choice, as one will be more comfortable relinquishing it, and one more dominant and want the use of it. If they are both equally demanding, I would advise a lecture to not disturb the driver, or they will no longer share the privilege of the same ride. There should be allowances made for this, instead of pure instinct, thank you

Who ever put their arm there first. If they both go to use it at the same time; play paper, rock, scissors for it as there isn't a clear cut answer for that.

They are usually large enough to share. If not, then whoever got there first, I would think.

...or neither can use it at all!
