I have never asked anyone this before, but it is becoming more pronounced as I get older and I'd really like to know the cause.
Every so often, I get an extreme need for water and it leaves me feel sick no matter how much water/fluids I've previously had... but the odd thing is that it only happens after I feel exposed somehow.
For example, after work today there was a man looking me up and down and I got a sudden, overwhelming need for water.
It also happens when I'm wearing certain types of clothes.
What could possibly be the cause of this?
Please, any help would be HUGELY appreciated.
Thank you all,
Lauren

That sounds to me like a conditioned response. Something happened long ago that you've forgotten, and now the environment is close to when it happened the first time.
The best explanation I've ever heard, is Dianetics' engram explanation. Which is, whenever you have pain (emotional or physical) your consciousness is reduced (possibly to complete unconsciousness) but your mind is still recording everything. The more pain you're in, the more unconscious you are, and the more susceptible you are to verbal suggestion. So, something happened where a man was looking you up and down while you were wearing a certain type of clothes, and you sustained an injury - physical or mental, and then something may have said something like "Get some water, she needs to have water!" And now, you need water. That's pretty much how an engram works, it sounds crazy, but I've seen it work first hand.
Check out www.dianetics.org, and write me privately if you want to talk some more - I do have a great deal more I could tell you.

Some of this can be in your head, but it could also be a condition you delvoped. i think you shoud see a doctor if possible. ( odd fact: the yellower you pee is the more deyhydrated you are, if its clear you hydrated) Try to change your habits that deal with this, maybe try not to feel so exposed. i used to be an extremely shy person and doing anything oral made my whole body shake non-stop. So i told myself that i didn't need to be nervous and that its no the end of the world. If this seems out of your control you should really see a specialist.

This could be psychological (mentioning that clothing and men looking at you can cause this), but with a constant thirst for water, I'd be high-tailing it to the doctor to rule out diabetes...that's a classic symptom for it.

See a doctor, extreme thirst is a symptom of some medical conditions (like high blood sugar/diabetes and others).

Sounds psychological. You may want to find out why this connection exists.
