I know that my ac charge is low, I was planning on refilling myself but when I attach the gauge it fluctuates from low to high. I am afraid my compressor may be bad and do not want to damage anything else....

thanks for any insight!

So Should I continue with recharging myself?

You're out of freon. I had this happen to my Ford Escort a few years ago. There is a pressure switch that cuts off thew compressor if you run out of gas, since the gas also contains a lubricant for the compressor. No gas = no lube, so the switch protects the compressor from running dry. Filling it will help a little, but you really need to find out where the leak is (often, it's from the front heat exchanger, where a bit of gravel has hit it and created a small crack.)

Good luck!

You're probably low on refrigerant. Freon hasn't been used in car A/C systems for over a decade.

You can have it recharged at a good independent A/C shop, but you'll also want to have them check for leaks. Otherwise you'll just keep adding refrigerant over and over.

it might be your compressor clutch. Maybe the compressor motor could be going out on internal overload. Low pressure safety switch. Faulty Temp sensor

It is low on freon. The low pressure switch is cutting on and off.
