If you're on the 'up and up' and need to find this person...and not a stalker, I suggest you contact the place where you know they worked and have THEM contact the person with information as to how to get in touch with YOU. Otherwise, not going to be easily done. Too many first names, too many general areas, like first answer says.

Is it possible, yes. Time consuming, yes. Prohibitively expensive to hire a private investigator, yes.
For an example for you, here's the average rate in Houston, TX:
Houston Private Investigator Rates
Most clients are concerned about the cost of conducting a private investigation. We try to work with all our clients to maximize their dollar and get the results desired in the shortest time possible. We are hesitant to work with clients who are too concerned about the "bottom line," just as you should be hesitant to hire a firm that will agree to a rate that is far below the average. Right now the average rate for professional investigative services in Houston when billed per hour is $60 to $70 per hour, give or take a few dollars depending upon the circumstances.

Hope this helps.

First name? Probably not
A good private detective might be able to dig someone up and you have *a lot* of other info. Possible schools, neighborhoods, work, ect. From there they can narrow it down and end up with a few people.
Other then that, probably not.

Well maybe, depends on how much money you are willing to spend and how many laws you are willing to break.
Most likely the place they worked, if it is Charles, how many Charles will have worked there, at a certain time, so you will bribe a secretary to get you a employee list,
You will have to search and find each charles to exclude them
so yes it is possible,
