i was notified that i won some money but for me to get the money i have to pay taxes to the uk is this a scam

Yes. If it wasn't a scam, and was an actual legitimate lottery, the taxes would automatically be taken out of the sum.

You don't have to proactively put forth money (the "taxes") in order to collect lottery winnings.

So for example... if you won a $200 lottery, and there was a 10% tax by the state on it, they would just give you $180 (and send $20 to the state).
You wouldn't have to actually pay someone $20, then get $200 back.

Yeah it's a complete scam.

There is only one lottery in the UK, and if you win the prize is tax free. They actually take the tax out of the entry fees up front, so that you don't have to pay on the back end if you win.

The UK National Lottery don't award prizes online to random people. They don't send out emails asking for taxes or fees to be paid.

This is a common lottery scam that happens all the time. If you send any money you will never see it again.
