It's not like you're going to die in the AF.

I say why not.

I think its a decision you have to make for yourself. However the Air Force has very short deployments anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months, so that's always a plus. My husband is in the army and we have a 16 month old daughter. He is getting ready to leave for a year and it will suck. We both know the risks, but its who he is. He is an American soldier and its his job. I knew that when I said yes to marrying him and when we decided to have a baby. There are so many people in the armed forces who have families and children. And if and when you do join you'll be taking your family and giving them a bigger and stronger family. Its amazing how you immediately feel a connection when you meet another military family. Your children will be more proud of you then they already are. Good luck!!

You wont see any action in the air force, specially the reserves. The deployments are only 4 months long. not bad compared to 7 months and 1 year. Go for it Good experience

Absolutely, if you are prepared for possible activation and/or deployment. Many people who have children choose to serve their country. I did. It's a serious consideration though, so I would really think it out and not rush into anything.

If it is a concern then I would check on the unit's deployment record.

P.S. The islamic fanatics are not going to stop their war on the west just because Bush leaves office. How absurd that first answer is...

Yes, if you understand that you might be called upon to deploy and leave them for an extended period of time. Having a family is not an excuse to get out of a deployment or your contract.

Serving your country is a very honorable thing to do and a get example to set for you children. But, it comes with some pretty hefty responsibility. Are you ready for that?

Yes, if you understand the possibility of being called to active duty and potential deployments. The military is a great opportunity for personal growth and service above self. It is a good example to your children. God bless, best wishes.

Hmm, it depends on your personal situation. You have to make sure they will be well-cared for in the event you have to leave. It's a decision that will affect your family for sure, but lots of parents do it. Get all the info you can, preferably from more than one source.

I think you are a parent first, how did you or would you have felt if you were a child and your parent or parents died? When you have a child, your responsible to that child to not only make money for them, but to be there, care for and make sure they have your protection until they are grown. Nobody loves your child like you do, and nobody can make them feel secure in life, when your passing them onto someone eles to care for them, you are in fact saying to that little mind that they are not important enough for you to care for, and so someone eles must care for them in your place. I used to get upset when my mom went on vacation with my dad for a week, I felt lost and alone, and cried for any contact with her, that was a week. I don't understand how anyone could do that to a child for years, prison is bad enough, but people to volunteer to go there, volunteering to leave your kids, is just sad. I don't agree with the Militaries new concept of taking both parents away from their kids, it's horrible, kids love to visit their grandparents, but they don't want to trade their parents for their grandparents. Is the world becoming a place of cold, uncaring people, or are we being forced to become this way. That's my feelings on it, I don't look at it from just my point of view, I look at it from the childs point of view, if the child in question is not born yet or is a newborn, why not give it up for adoption, to a person who can care, and protect the baby throughout it's life, then you can go fight and possibly die, and not leave another ophan behind while feeling like you are being so noble. Pin a medal on your chest, you'll feel so much pride in yourself.
