When opening i-tunes before it loads i receive this message. "I-tunes has detected a problem with your audio configuration. Audio/video playback may not work properly." Then when i click the song it says "playing" but, the the songs time meter stays at zero and no sound comes out at all. Next I try to play music with windows media player....it says"Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device. There might not be a sound device installed on your computer, it might be in use by another program, or it might not be functioning properly." Any suggestions? The troubleshooter was no help. And i don't have any other audio programs open.

Could be the drivers or missing codecs.

Find out where your sound card is and what the model number is. If your sound is on the motherboard, get the drivers from the manufacturers website. Same goes if you have a card installed, except go to the sound cards manufacturers website.

Uninstall the previous drivers, restart the computer, reinstall the new drivers. This should do it.

If not, you may have codes missing. If this is the case, download ACE Codecs Mega Pack, it's a little overboard, but installs most audio and video codecs, and let's you choose templates, like Minimal, Professional etc.
