I need some ideas for wedding favors. My wedding is in the fall. I don't like normal favors that peopel give out, I feel like it's always something to throw away. Some ok ideas are small wine bottles, wine stoppers which the ones I like are too expensive, cookies in the tradition of my Grandmom... But I wanted something more unique. No frames or anything like that. Any ideas?

You can't go wrong with edible or disposable favors. We did M&Ms in organza bags and mini mints in tins for our favors and they were a huge hit. People liked the variety of chocolates and mints.

Cute boxes tied with fall colored ribbons can contain a chocolate truffle or 2, chocolate acorns or chocolate leaves and would be inexpensive:

Or something they can plant in their yard, like flower bulbs:

You could even buy bulbs in bulk and put them in a pretty basket with bags nearby so people can bag up their own - those that want them can take them, and you can use or distribute any that are left over.

Anything with candy. There are some awesome candy molds out there (for chocolate) that you can make so easily and it's very inexpensive to buy chocolate and make them. They also have candy molds where you can make chocolate lollipops or chocolate covered pretzel sticks. When I sit down and wait for dinner at a wedding i'm usually getting pretty hungry. It's always good to incorporate candy or a small snack because some guests haven't eaten since breakfast and will be starving! Stay away from favors like personalized candles or whatever. People just throw that stuff away. Not many people I know would take home and actually keep a personalized item that had my picture or name on it.

For us, there are so many endless possibilities, but usually, guests dislike little trinkets for favors, as they won't keep them later, or they'll end up in the odds'n'ends drawer. Edible favors are really good...because they can be nibbled while waiting on dinner.
But I didn't want another decision to have to make, so my fiance and I are donating the money we would have spent on favors to a charity we both really believe in, and putting an announcement in a frame on every table that a donation has been made in their name, as a means to pay forward the blessing they are to us.
Whatever you do will be really appreciated. The knot's website has some GREAT ideas!
best wishes!

You can do drink coasters with custom pictures inside. Someone I know did that for her wedding. They were very nice glass drink coasters and she put a different picture inside for each guest depending on what their personality or hobby was. My husband's was a turntable because he's a DJ and mine was a nice pic of a beautiful theatre. They also served as placecards at the table. The winestoppers may not have to be too expensive. You can do copper (or copper looking ones) for your fall wedding. Or photo holders that also hold name cards at the table. If you do the cookie idea, maybe you could put them in a little basket or tin along with the recipe and a thank you note? That sounds nice :-)

have you seen the cookie cutter favors. They come in a heart shape with a recipe for sugar cookie. You could get those, get and extra one for you and have someone in the family make some of the cookie. Wrap them and attach them to the cutter with ribbon. Some of them have little sayings about the recipe for love and a happy marriage too.

My cousin had mini champagne bottles with a label wrapped around it with their names and wedding date. It was very nice and not cheesy. You could even do mini wedding cakes or mini boxes of chocolates like Godiva. They offer them as favors.

Must you give favors? I know its traditional, but truly, your money could be better spent hiring a better band/going top shelf with the liquor or bar/doing an upgrade in the meal...because you're right, people don't want favors-they end up in the trash!

my wedding is going to have a nature theme, and i'm getting individual tree seedlings to give as favors. go to greenworldproject.net, they have a lot of different options. i'm getting just the plain seedlings ($1.50 a piece), and i'm going to add ribbon to them with our names and the date.

Consumables are good - mints, chocolates, etc. They rarely get left behind! Then you can package and decorate them uniquely.
