Are you having any other symptoms? Any weakness, fatigue? If you have other symptoms you may want to have your thyroid chcked. make sure they do a TSH test and a TPO antibody to check for autoimmune disorder.
The cold sore could be stress your body is enduring due to illness

It is a result of stress...I'd say they're only mild ones, but if you allow it to go on, it'll become bad.
Relax a bit, don't get uptight too easily. Some things will pass.
Do some therapy like gardening, talking to your plants. Take the kids, or your nieces/nephews out for a picnic. Spend a little on what makes you feel good, and greet everyone you meet. Say thanks a lot, smile and offer help within your capabilities. Listen to some good music, and do nothing else while listening.
Don't get into heavy stuff, serious stuffs like religion, making more money, getting defensive over anything, worrying, fighting for targets etc2 for the time being until your hair stops dropping, and the cold sores disappear.
In other words, just be cooool! You'll be good

Definitely could be diet related. Do you take vitamins. Have you been sick lately. If you are on an extreme diet it will compromise your immune system and make you susceptible to every bug you come into contact with. At the very least you need a really good multiple vitamin.
