Is it possible at all that there be individuals for whom a guarantee of food and shelter , no work , and seclusion might be a not so bad prospect ? (disregard sexuality )
Can a person who is in prison for life , benefit from any money he might have , like buy things for himself and enjoy them inside the prison ?
Can a person who is inside for life study and get an official degree ?
Can an inmate gain in any way from an activity while in jail ? Like writing a book or books ? Or doing online jobs like tutoring ?
Can an inmate have continuous connection to the internet ?

The idea came to me after watching 20/20 and how the murderer was sentenced . I thought : that might not be as bad as it looks ! I mean , for some people , most of their life is behind closed doors anyway , like writers etc
For some people , both WORK and RECREATION can be and is usually performed INDOORS .
So I wanted to get some information about prisoners' rights , to assess how bad and punishing the sentence could be .
I tried looking for an answer to these questions online , I couldn't find any .

I am not talking about the average criminal here . I was thinking about a hypothetical intellectual , and how life imprisonment might not necessarily be an "end" to enjoyed life , by virtue of intellect .
It may sound weird as something to waste time thinking about and discussing , maybe it is . More reason to thank you for your answers .

Im no expert on this but Im failry sure the worse the crime the less rights or priviledges you have.
Paris Hilton was just scentenced to 45 days and was told she would have no priviledges...(I think they were trying to make an example out of her for being a repeat offender)
For a definate YES prisoners can change their lives and write and get degrees while in prison. The system does this because there is no point locking them up and then having them get out and be the same person as before.
Studying etc.. in prison helps them acheive goals or dreams, encourages them within themselves that they are not really bad at all (they just chose to be) and can do positive things and make a difference in their lives just like anyone else. it gives them hope and asperation, and a will to succeed and do better.
I do not beleive that they have access to their accounts/money while they are in there. I know people on the dole do not receive payments while they are behind bars. They are allocated an amount of money each week (maybe $20) which they can buy smokes and things from inside the prison...
AN inmate can definately gain from activities behind bars, but bear in mind that these activities are not designed to give the person a free ride or an easy time, they are designed to help them be better and have a positive future and make them feel worthwhile.
They can also access internet but I HIGHLY doubt it would be continuous and it is probably monitored also.
The worse your sentence is the less things you get and are allowed to do.
The worst of cases may be locked in a tiny cell with nothing but a bed and toilet and are only allowed out for a an hour per day.
The lesser cases may be allowed to wander around all day...
Hope this helps a little.

I know a few people that have been in prison and they say its pretty terrible. You fear for your life all the time, keep in mind their are a lot of people in prison that wouldn't give it a second thought to killing someone in there with them. A parole officer told me most people, when released, have high blood pressure, due to the fact they have to watch there back continuously.
The people I know that have been locked up, say being locked in a cell, where one person has to sit on the bunk for the other one to pass by, your freedom is gone, is pretty terrible.
And, no, you have no access to computers, that are on line.
Some people have family that can send some money once in awhile so you have access to put in a order once a week to a little store they have. Some get a job that pays 25cents an hour, so they have a little money in an account.

The person is in prison as a punishment for a crime committed. He/she should not "enjoy" luxuries like TV, internet, good food, etc. at the expense of the taxpayers. To do that would almost be a reward. No responsibility, live a life as normal as you can inside of the walls? Hell no.
Prisons should be a place that you DO NOT EVER want to end up at. Dark, damp, muddy. "Food Loaf" for every meal and only water. No TV or Internet, and HARD work like a factory or agriculture job everyday to help the government pay for a criminal's incarceration so that the people who have to be protected from him/her don't bear that burden.

They can study and get a degree.
They can write a book. Most prisons have libraries, and the prisoners are allowed to use them.
No online jobs. A few offenders can have internet access, but their searches are monitored. No continuous internet, though. Some can receive e-mail.

people who make statements like that have probable had a undesirable journey with a concern regarding divorce and toddler help. I take great concern with people who might evaluate telling a mom to pass on nutrition stamps, and so on. and watching for that to be an appropriate concern for a toddler whilst a father, who's in charge for his little ones could be paying help. Many underestimate the 24/7 component of taking good care of youngsters and seem at issues in an quite shallow economic attitude. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, on the different area of issues, I married a great guy who has 2 youngsters from a prior marriage. His help charge is in line with share and he will pay over 10,000 a 365 days in help. between his ex and her contemporary husband they make a substantial volume of money greater desirable than our relatives (and that they might't count variety the spousal earnings, so the region will proceed to be an identical) so the ex gets dissimilar funds she would not unquestionably need to help the youngsters. i might on no account say that she would not deserve it, yet i might like to understand that a number of it replaced into going right into a school account, like my hubby already does for the two youngsters.

life in prison is about three hots and a cot. but their also power and respect. those are what is really important.it's not about money or an education or the internet. you gain power and respect any way you can. through fear and intimidation. thats it pure and simple. so be it.

Why should we ,the tax payers , give up our money to keep these animals behind bars. I think a good old fashion hanging would stop alot of crime. we need to start enforcing the death penalty.
