I dunno man that would really be a matter of personal preference.
Russian has more bounce beyond its borders, though not ultra useful, there's a massive amount of great Russian literature and writing that is famous, though I'm sure there is plenty in Turkish as well.
Both are relatively difficult languages for English speakers. Neither is hugely harder than the other.
With the choice of those two I would personally go for Russian. Once you've learned Russian, there are a dozen or so other Slavic languages with large numbers of speakers that you would have a huge head start on. There are no closely related languages to Turkish with the same characteristics.
Russian is more widespread and there is a lot more in the way of learning materials for it than there is for Turkish.
That could be a big factor in learning it. There are all sorts of interesting languages that would be fun to learn, but finding out that it is tough to find the resources to do so will damage your progress.
I don't think that there is any kind of generic reason beyond what I've stated that someone can give you that will make you want to learn one over the other. At the end of the day, Russian will probably take you further, but it's your choice.

Russian is understood in Slavic countries.
Turkish is mutually intelligible (to different extents) with most Central Asian languages (except for Tajik), some languages of the Caucasus and languages of certain other ethnic groups within the borders of Russia (like the Bashkirs and the Tatars).
Maybe a good way to choose would be based on which of these regions of the world are of interest to you.

If you can learn russian then it might be better for you! cuz of the connection between U.S. and Russia. and There are many people who speak russian or similar languages in this world. But turkish is might be as useful as russian. Cuz there are many turkish people in different countries like germany(more than millions). Plus there are languages which comes from the same root and so close to turkish.
I don't say turkish might be more useful for you. it depends you!
and one last thing! russian is the 3rd most difficult language to learn. ( I don't say turksih is simple;))

Russian you can use a lot more than turkish. turkish is a beautiful language but you may loose it easier being that fewer people speak it rather than russian. also with russian lithuanian, ukranian, polish could also pretty much understand you because these languages are close. Russian is a good survival language

Saygılarımla, ---------------------. if you wont mention a specific Turkish city and say Turkey directly for the blank: ______ civarını (delete it and write) Türkiye'yi
