No, it was made up to mock real religions - to make people realize that their religion makes no more sense than one just made up on the spot. That they have no more evidence for a god than they do for a flying spaghetti monster.

The Flying Spaghetti Monster is the deity of a parody religion called the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
The religion was founded in 2005 by Oregon State University physics graduate Bobby Henderson to protest against the decision by the Kansas State Board of Education to require the teaching of intelligent design as an alternative to biological evolution.
In an open letter sent to the education board, Henderson professes belief in a supernatural Creator called the Flying Spaghetti Monster, which resembles spaghetti and meatballs.
He furthermore calls for the "Pastafarian" theory of creation to be taught in science classrooms.
Followers of the Flying Spaghetti Monster (FSM) call themselves Pastafarians, a portmanteau of pasta and Rastafarian.
Because of its recent popularity and media exposure, the Flying Spaghetti Monster is used by atheists and agnostics (known by Pastafarians as "spagnostic") as a modern version of Russell's teapot.

the church of the flying spaghetti monster was done to stop creationism from being taught in college science courses. a college student wrote a letter to the school board saying if creationism could be taught in science class though it lacks all scientific proof then he could say a flying spaghetti monster created the world and insist that should be taught as well.
here is the letter

Yes. The Flying Spaghetti Monster created the universe, and is the only 'god' worthy of the name.
Have you been touched by His Noodly Appendage?

The flying spaghetti monster (FSM) is as real as any god you can mention. Just because its discovery has been recent doesn't make it invalid. It is just as valid as the christian god.
If you disagree,....please provide evidence to the contrary (snicker).
Ramen.

It's as real as the Church of the SubGenius, which is a lot better of a cult, better pamphlets, more marketable, just more fun.

I don't think its a real religion, I always believed it was a clever come back made by atheist against the
"If you can't prove it exist than you can't deny it's existence"
don't quote me.

no. I'm not a "pastaferian" so I consider it a facetious sub-cult.
PS. I never liked spaghetti all that much.
