I know cardio is a great way for losing body fat, however I get bored with that after 30 mins. I really enjoy lifting weights and at this point and time, Im not looking to bulk up, but lose fat. Im not going to stop doing cardio either. For fat burning, is it better to lift a moderate to heavy weight, or a light weight and lots of reps. Again, not really looking to bulk up at this point and time. Im concerned about my health more than anything else. Im 6'2 and 290. Diabetes runs in the family and I want to lower my risk for such diseases. I have in the last month drastically changed my eating habits as well.

any resistance training workout should be based on compound exercises. they involve the most muscles and once form is perfected allow the trainer to use heavy loads to effectively stimulate all muscle fiber types with ease. training at a high level of intensity will cause the greatest increase in the resting metabolic rate after exercise. with resistance training and cardio the key to making continued progress is to perform more work each training session than the previous in the same amount of time. this can equate to adding only one lb of weight or one more repititon. the same applies to cardio. you want to perform more work in the same amount of time. don't pay attention to the calories burned but to the distance traveled. if you do 6 miles in 30 minutes today then the next cardio day you should be aiming for 6.1 miles in the same 30 minutes.

Weight lifting while great for losing weight needs to be complimented with low intensity cardio to help burn fat. Weight lifting is an anaerobic exercise meaning that in order to finish a bout of weight lifting your energy is coming primarily from stored blood sugar and muscle glycogen, not fat. To burn fat you need to do more aerobic types of exercise where the energy you need comes from metabolized fat. Such exercises are low intensity cardio such as walking, light jogging. If you get bored with the cardio you can try circuit training, this will keep your heart rate up and allow you to burn fat at the end of your workout.

Neither. Weight lifting will only build muscle. You need to do cardio to burn fat, such as running(NOT JOGGING OR WALKING) for at least 30 minutes, biking up hills, intense swimming sessions(lap swimming), or anything else that gets your heart pumping and makes you break a sweat.

dude i would highly recommend doing cardio early in the morning with nothing in your stomach, perhaps some simple carbs like orange juice, that'll make you use your stored fat as energy, 20-30 minutes only, don't wanna faint and then like you said low-weight-high-reps on all muscles to give you a nice definition

use mid weight high rep and do it 2-3 times a week. and i mean rep i mean till you just cant do it any more. also try to jump rope 5min continuously almost everyday.

edit: mid weight is like 55-70% of your max.

i would consider running on a treadmill for a while ( but not for a long period of time, you might get injured ) and just watching what you eat.
