Seriously, you can say that it's "gratifying the flesh" or a form of idolatry, but even things like chocolate or TV can fall into this same category. Also, I've heard many say that it's sorcery and of the devil, but come on, it's not sorcery unless you're a witch or whatever and holding a siance, black mass, etc. Yes, sorcerors did use drugs to induce altered states of consciousness' as part as their communication with demons and the like, but that doesn't mean that everyone who smokes pot is a sorceror. All sorcerors might smoke pot but not all pot smokers are sorcerors. In fact, I feel more religous and spiritual when I'm high, and by that, I mean towards God and His Son and His beautiful creation and His awesome love. It is a God-given plant with hundreds of medicinal properties, but like everything that is good and decent, Satan has made something evil out of it--which is abusing it to the point of where it becomes a god to you and all you can do is think about it.

I think the important thing to ask is does GOD consider it a sin. After all, he determines what is good and what is sin, not mankind.

Smoking is indeed sinful activity because it violates 7 Biblical principles......

1. Chemical addiction - Smoking has chemicals in it that make it many more times addictive than heroine or cocaine. According to Jesus we cannot have anything else master over us but God. (Genesis 4:7, Matthew 6:24, Luke 16:13)

2. Bad for your health - If God created the human body which he called "good" (Genesis 1:31), why would you pollute it? If you got your kid a nice bike for his birthday, how would you feel if you later saw him leaving it lying around in the mud and rain and not taking care of it?

3. Setting a poor example for unbelievers - How can people glorify God by your example (Matthew 5:16, 1 Peter 2:12) when you are engaged in improper activity?

4. Setting a poor example for believers - How are we going to be mutually encouraged by each others faith if we are engaged in sin?! I am offended enough every time I smell someones 2nd hand smoke but to smell it coming from a believer?!?!?!?!!?

5. Setting a poor example for kids - But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. -Matthew 18:6

6. Using the resources God gave you for no good purpose - Smoking wastes money (Matthew 25:14), time, and your health. (things we can all use more of) Since God gave us resources, we need to use them to further the Kingdom, not live life the way we want.

7. Continuing in sin - Given the hundreds of times i have talked to smokers; deep down people know that it is wrong and is therefore SIN. If you continue to do that which you know is wrong you are allowing sin to rule your life.

Direct my footsteps according to your word; let no sin rule over me. -Psalm 199:133

For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. -Romans 6:14

I consider anything we do that harms the bodies that God gave us to be a sin, so if the use of marijuana was harmful to the body in how it was being used, then yes, I would consider that a sin. Even if it wasn't harmful to the body, then it would still be considered a sin because God tells us to obey the laws of the land, and marijuana is an illegal drug when not prescribed for medical purposes. While I don't smoke anything, I sin every day because I love Coca-Cola and junk-food, which is also not good for my body. All I can do is to do the best I can to consume these things in moderation so that they do not harm my body and hope I can resist the temptation to overindulge.

As for whether or not I consider something a sin, that really doesn't matter because my opinion is not the one that counts. Only God's opinion counts and only He can judge.

me and my son talked about this, and I read the whole Bible to see what I could find. God made everything and when He made everything He made it good, He made every seed and He made it good. Sin came along and everything went to the pits. I honestly think and I am sure many will have something to say about it, but I think that when God made everything He made it good and for good use, even the seeds to marijuana, people who has eye problems which I do have open angle glaucoma and I have had lazer on them, nothing really has worked, this kind is the kind that gets your eyes when your small and when your old enough the damage is done, it is very painful too, many people has told me I should try marijuana that it may help. So like I said what God put here on earth He had plans for, to help His people but sin came along and changed everything, even people who suffers from arthritis, I also have Osteoarthritis so I am in alot of pain, and I am not a pill taker either, I hate pills so I do alot of suffering. No I don't think it is a sin, how can something good that God Himself made be a sin? I don't smoke marijuana because it is against the law, which I don't understand if it is going to help people, and if I ever get that bad I won't promise that I won't either..I know man has added to it but I am not talking of that kind I am talking of what God made and it was good..

Anything mind altering in excess is a sin. IMHO? Because we are obliged to obey Caesar's laws? Any breaking of the law is a sin. Now, whether it's a big sin, like murder, or small sin, smoking weed-drunk in public a matter of degrees. Although the hypocrisy of slamming all sin as Great Sin! That BS. Never liked the Sunday preacher and the Monday sinner types.

No, taking prescription drugs to alleviate a medical condition is not a sin. The Bible doesn't even mention marijuana in the first place although a reasonable case can be made from the Scriptures for not using marijuana outside of a medical context.

First because it's against the law and second because it interferes with short term memory and third because as a psychoactive drug it is similar in it's effects to drugs used in sorcery. The Greek word translated in the Bible as sorcery is pharmakeia from which we get our word pharmacy.

pharmakeía; gen. pharmakeías, fem. noun from phármakon (n.f.), a drug, which in the Gr. writers is used both for a curative or medicinal drug, and also as a poisonous one. Pharmakeía means the occult, sorcery, witchcraft, illicit pharmaceuticals, trance, magical incantation with drugs (Gal_5:20; Rev_9:21; Rev_18:23; Sept.: Exo_7:22; Isa_47:9, Isa_47:12).

Rev 9:21 nor did they repent of their murders or their sorceries (pharmakeía) or their sexual immorality or their thefts.

No it is not a sin, it is classified as a weed and a herb...The reason it became illegal in the first place, was a President of USA deemed it so.. Guess what ,?? his brother or brother in law was the CEO of a new company called Nylex.. Nylex made nylon rope and was in opposition to hemp rope, so wa-la, it gets banned , made illegal and the Church jumps on the band wagon with the Government... And you see as the years go by people forget the real reason it became illegal in the first place.. Greed at the highest level, they don't ban booze and cigarettes do they ?? Oh no, toooo much money involved there...Our ancestors have been using mind altering drugs since the dawn of time, mainly for their religious purposes and not recreational purposes... Love and Light.. BB.. )O(

Self injury is a sin, so I would say with certainty that destroying your brain cells with each use would fall under hurting yourself.
It's a sin in the eyes of God, it's illegal in the eyes of the law and if it wasn't any of that, it would still be stupid to mess up your physical and mental health just for a high. (yes, pot smoking not only reduces the IQ, but also facilitates short memory loss leading to early senility and an increased risk of developing psychological problems particularly paranoia)
I know it's not what you want to hear, but you aksed and I'm giving you my honest opinion.

Certainly not. Alcohol and tobacco are a lot more dangerous--booze kills about 100,000 Americans each year and non-wacky tobaccky kills 400,000 Americans. All illegal drugs COMBINED kill 15,000-20,000, and nobody has even come close to dying of a THC overdose in recorded history.

In short, if Jesus could condone the use of a hard drug--alcohol--by providing the wine for the wedding in Cana, I'm sure he'd have no prob with herb...

It's not a sin because it's a law made by people in our government. A century ago cocaine, marijuana and other drugs including heroin were used in the U.S.

People who claims all the negative symptoms of weed obviously had never actually tried it and are brain washed by the media. Weed is as actually much less harmful than alcohol considering drunk drivers and brain damage.

In fact they were considered wonder medicine.

First you can't be or feel more religious, either you are or your not.If, in fact ,you believe in Jesus Christ and his father God,then imagine all your actions with him in your presence.Do you think that lighting up a joint and getting stoned would be something that God or Jesus would say was alright?I think not.Would you go to church smoking pot,in church?Probably not, after all it is the house of the Lord, wouldn't it be disrespectful to God.Just think in terms that your walking with Jesus everyday, even if you can't see him, then think what or what you wouldn't do,for all things you do,not just pot smoking. You 'll find your life choices easier to make.Have Jesus be the friend you hang out with all day,ask what he'd approve of.
