Check with your states fish and game, in Texas if the pond is the correct size they stock it for nothing.

Above are good answers. The Game and Fish stocked my pond in Arkansas with, Blue Channel Catfish, Bluegill Bream and Small Mouth Bass. I think this a one time stocking and the pond have to be open to the public.
Also, I could buy fish at the Farmers Supply when the Truck delivered. Normally you put in your order and then a Truck come at a certain time with your order.
Some people bought Amur Carp (I think that the name) to control algae.

On ponds below 5 acres normally Bass and Bluegill.
NOTHING ELSE.. The bass will eat the small bluegill and that will mean bigger panfish.. You should set a size limit on the bass.. at least 15 inches in your area.. maybe more.. Ask your Fish and Wildlife guy. They can advise you very well.
Do what they say and you should have a great pond.

My advice, be sure the fish all appear healthy, with no parasites, lumps and bumps, red spots, body fungus or anything.
Fish tanks can be enough as it is, but trying to treat a POND may take a lot of money...been there.
Edit: Ohh...unless you mean a regular pond-pond...well, I'd still suggest healthy fish.

Check with your local DNR for their pond management booklet it will have needed info for you!
Also check out the hybrid georgia giant bream for a great pond stock panfish!
Usually you stay away from certain types of fish for pond stock.(any tropical fish, bullheads, common carp....!)

Check with Dept of Wildlife and Fisheries, they should be able to answer all your questions. If I were stocking a pond(Im in Louisiana), I would use Blue catfish, bluegills, florida black bass, and my favorite......crappie.

You definately choose baitfish first. There are minnows that reproduce as much as 4 situations a 300 and sixty 5 days. After that redear, bluegills, and crappies. some catfish and carp won't harm something. then you quite inventory bass, largemouth and smallies. good good fortune
