Well having not been able to use my Mac for a week when it was being repaired and being forced to use my PC, I would recommend Mac definitely. It's simple to use, there are pretty much no complications and it doesn't get viruses and spyware like a PC.

This is of course personal preference, but I honestly have to say, the Mac is wonderful in comparison.

What many of these people are forgetting to realize is that for an operating to get viruses, somebody has to write them. No one is going to write viruses for an operating system that less then 15 percent of the population uses - Mac OS. I haven't gotten any viruses with Vista, either, and I've been running it without a firewall or a virus scanner for months. The main reason is that Vista is very different from previous versions of Windows, and not enough people use Vista yet to make it a target.

About cost: You can get a brand new computer, WITH Vista, for far less than a comparably equipped Mac. Not only that, but you can BUY Windows separately and BUILD your own computer and save even MORE money. You cannot legally install Mac OS X on a computer that was not built by Apple. Hows THAT for a monopoly.

Don't buy a Mac. No one uses Macs, and no one ever will. A simple, up to date virus scanner will be more than enough to protect you.

Umm I used to be a real PC girl then bought a Macbook three months ago.

I adore it - not viruses, very quick and clean. Programmes are easier to install/ take off - just everything is smoother. However, there are so many more programes you can use with a PC. I'd be pretty annoyed if I ONLY had a Mac and could not use certain programs.

If you want easier to use, I suggest Windows
If you want no high risk of viruses, go for the Mac

But the expense, that's where you weigh them whether you really need one or the other one

I would recommend Mac!
First off macs don't get viruses and Windows has lots of errors and isn't as easy to use and now all new intel core macs can run windows in addition to mac os x, and runs windows a lot better!

I think it's mostly what you are used to for ease. My mother has windows on her desktop and a Mac laptop and says both are easy, just different. Mac wins on the virus part of your question, partly because not as many hackers seem interested in attacking it, which is also one of the reasons older Window OS don't have the virus issues they had when new. When you talk expense you're comparing apples to oranges (no pun intended) - no way to really compare.

It's shocking to me that anyone would say Windows is easy to use. I find it difficult to use even if I know exactly what I want to do and how to do it. It just takes too many steps and has too much interference from the OS (your network cable is unplugged, your network cable is plugged in... wtf???)

Macs are far easier to use and there are zero Mac viruses. Total cost of ownership is far less for a Mac than a PC.

easier to use=Windows
less viruses=Mac
Cost=cant compare, as windows is just an OS, where a Mac is an OS and an actual computer. But Linux is free.

Definately Mac
but if you're looking into getting a new OS, I reccomend waiting until OSX Leopard (Apple's newest.)
If you are accustomed to using Windows, I would not reccomend getting a Mac OS because its interface takes some getting used to. Another reason for Mac is with Boot Camp, you can even load Windows programs! Linux is another option, but I wouln't say it's entirely virus free, becuase it's open-source and anyone can publish.
