What it does is it changes you gear ratio's. I 4.11 gear will make the first 3 gears taller so you gain more torque in low rpm range and can ride first and second a little longer. Which is better in a drag race cuz these gears gain speed the fastest. The only thing is that it makes the last 2 or 3 gears shorter meaning you will lose top speed. Instead of the car being able to go 160mph stock the car will be able to maybe about 140mph with the new gears. Cuz you never really get to the top gear in a drag race anyway. In drag racing its not about top speed its about ET (elapsed time). Another con about the 4.11 gears is that you will lose highway driving rpms. Meaning if you were on the highway driving at 70mph your engine would be revving to about 2,500 rpm. But with the new gears the engine would be revving a lot higher maybe at about 3,300 rpms. Long story short it makes it bad on gas mileage.

First thing, yes, the make a 4.10 gear. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.
Second, going from the stock gear, your Mustang will zip away from standing much quicker and chirp the tires on the shift.
Since the automatic is OD (overdrive) you won't notice much in city driving, but on the highway the engine will be running faster and guzzling gas.

PS: in racer-speak, a taller gear is exactly the opposite of what is described above.

It will make your engine spin faster for the same speed.
This will make you accelerate faster, by giving you more torque. It will also, lower your top speed, and decrease your MPG and cause you to speed more at the pump.
With you engine turning more RPM's for the same speed, it means you will wear out parts more often, by causing more wear through friction.
If you are racing, fine. It you want to drive it on the street, then I would think twice about it, especially with an automatic transmission. Just leave it stock, you have more than enough HP to handle the job of getting down the road. good luck

First, they are 4.10's. http://www.fordracingparts.com/faq/faq.asp
Higher (numerically) gears will cause your rpm's to go up thereby putting you into the "powerband" quicker. You will sacrifice some top end power/speed, but for street driving it will feel MUCH quicker without actually adding any more power.
Your highway rpms will also go up. Typically it's only 300 or so. You may see a decrees in MPG, but 1-2 at most.

i think 3.31:1 is stock rearend gear for that stang. 4.10:1 would mean you have more of that grunt down low to pull you from a stop but your engine will spin faster to drive 65 down the road.

It would cause you to spend big bucks on gas.The gear is 4:11 not 4:10.It's to low just to have and drive around.Right now it's best to talk it but not do it.Unless you have extra money to burn.
