In my youth we called young girls heifers because it was a colloquialism in the South. It wasn't meant to be derogatory, but a slightly affectionate term.

It would either mean one of two things: You are a female cow that has not given birth, or you're a lazy cow that sleeps around but hasn't conceived. In the 1800's it would also have meant simply: woman, girl. Although probably with some rude connotation.

If someone calls you a heifer, you simply say, "No, my cow died, so I don´t need your bull."
