One in each tank. Earlier Ford trucks had the supply pumps and a booster pump along the left frame rail just before the fuel filter. So early trucks dual tanks had three pumps. After 1995/6 only two pumps

With two tank systems only one main fuel pump is used in front tank. The rear tank has a low volume pump that feeds into the front tank when switched on or at a set level of the front tank.
