Justsys (below) The tomb is dated to the Herod who's rule began in 37 BC. THAT Herod is the one spoken of in the Bible.

There was more than one King Herod...I believe that they lived, but not sure about the rest. I would have to consider outside sources. The King Herod you're referring to died in 4 BCE.

Gives credibility to some, but voids others. The bible has a probability of getting some things right, a lot of aspects such as King Herod were common enough knowledge to have been included without much contradiction... However via history and archeology we know that some accounts (such as King Herod's slaughter of innocent sons or there being Jewish slaves in Egypt) are completely false. So the bible is right in some general instances, but more often than not (and most often in specific cases) it's completely wrong.

For me,---just wait and see what they excavate.

For instance, they may find tablets or scrolls that mention his command to kill the Jewish young to stop the 'king' he felt threatened about.

But for some, it would not matter.
If something like that was found that gave further evidence of Jesus, they would then jump to something else they would want as proof.
But, for a few, it could bring them into life, if something good was found in the tomb.

I want to mention that because there is not an agreement on what year he died, it should not affect the history the Bible has recorded about him. Josephus should be allowed some space for error.

how the heck could Herod kill Jesus as a child when he died four years before he was born?

As for your question I think it is a great archaeological find and I wondered a while back when they were going to find it because they have been looking for some time.

I look forward to seeing it the next time I am in Israel.

Actually this is no big deal. I don't think archaeologists or historians doubted that he existed. But be careful with assuming that just because one person from the bible might be historically verified that that automatically lends unequivocal support for the bible and its stories (myths).

Mayber he didn't try killing Jesus. Maybe Jesus is still just a myth.
