My 2yr old female Schnauzer has what appears to be a hemroid. She is in the middle of heat. Is this common for dogs in heat? Is there something over the counter she can be treated with or do I need to take her to the vet?

The reason she is intact, Dave, is because I intend to breed her. She is registered, has a very good bloodline, has very good conformation, and a great disposition. I have trained dogs professionally but admittedly am not a breeder. Like most people, I solicit advice from those who have experience. Instead of being condescending, how about considering that knowledge comes about through experience, and experience is gained by actually doing something...don't paint everyone with a broad brush with generalizations and assumptions that noone is as smart as you....jerk.

I'd take her in. It doesn't sound good.

Not a hemorrhoid. Probably just the swelling in the area that occurs when the dog goes into heat. My question back to you is why do you have a 2 year old female that is intact? Especially since you are so lacking in knowledge about dogs that you have to solicit answers from strangers. A responsible dog owner would have spayed a female long before it was two years of age. The medical advantages of spaying your dog are a tremendous incentive.

I think she needs to be seen by her vet but what you can do is call and speak with them first. Don't wait too long...if something that is supposed to be on the inside of the body is on the outside for too long it will become dead tissue and can cause problems. I have never seen what you are asking about in 15 years in a vet office but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

I really dont think it's a hemroid. It's all part of her being in heat. This will slowly dissapear when she is out of heat.
