BCG, short for bacillus calmette-guerin, is a vaccination for tuberculosis (TB). It is a weakened form of the bacteria which will not give you TB but will make your body produce antibodies so that you build up an immunity to TB.

This vaccination is used in many countries but not in the U.S. (vaccination results in positive TB test...in the U.S., we test for TB and treat it if detected rather than immunize against it). In the countries were BCG is given, it is usually given shortly after birth.

BCG stands for Baccilus of Calmette and Guerin. It is a vaccination against Tuberculosis (TB) developed by those two gentlemen. When it 'takes' properly it always leaves a white scar at the vaccination site, which acts as a permanent indication of a successful vaccination.
