typically, born out of wedlock is considered illegitimate. Conceived out of wedlock would merely be an inconvenience of timing. the international isn't an exceedingly charitable position and there are those who count number the weeks available. Illegitimacy is now in the main a criminal idea and holds no or little non secular meaning.

man and religion has been connected from day one. you cannot prove your idea because all societies in the world are religous, just because you may not have a religion it does not follow that everyone else is also not religous in prehistory.
even a tribe that has little contact with the outside world for 1000s of years have 'spirit houses' and religous ideas.
It is a shame children are called illegitimate - it is really the parents are the illlegitimate ones, failing to provide a legal basis to there relationship and passing the situation onto the child.

Fair point.
There are lots of children who are born out of wedlock, so it isn't really a big deal any more. I certainly wouldn't look down on someone born out of wedlock. That said, when I choose to have children myself, *ideally* I would be married. That's a personal preference (and I am not religious) but I feel it is the most stable option for a child. Couples who are not married can also be very commited but whether you like it or not, it is always easier to leave if you aren't wedded.

Children are a precious gift from God, they are the innocent victims of what their parents did. Would you call a child who was conceived because of rape illegitimate? Years ago, children who were born out of wedlock were called bastards. I am so glad people don't refer to illegitimate children by that connotation anymore. Don't blame the child for what the parents did.
Note to Christn 35. I liked your answer and was going to rate it as a good answer, but accidentally clicked on the bad answer. Sorry about that. I tried to change it but it was too late.

First, bearing a child out of wedlock isn't considered "illegitmate", but wrong.
An archaic idea was that the child who was born out of wedlock was considered "illegitimate", or a bastard. That is no longer the case. It was an old church rule that has since lost favor even in the church, as children are not considered to bear their parents' sins.

yeah but the w*nker who went by this rule says it only dates back a generation to the parents, prehaps its cos they were too dense to realise people date back further than one generation. just goes to show what pride and way too much glancing down the nose can do for you.

You're making a big assumption here... There's no proof that religion was or was not around at the same time that mankind began.

i understand and appreciate your question...your child is a very special person......give him/her love and never worry about what people think.....you cannot win in this situation regarding religion...abortion is wrong...sex before marriage is wrong....some people may say abstain...easier said than done......
