just because someone doesnt believe what you do it doesnt mean they hate you...or is it that you (christians) are not used to anyone questioning your faith?

The ones who are like that, it's because their bible tells them that they would be hated, and they're desperately seeking any validation of their beliefs that they can find.

There are a couple of things:

1). The atheists that give that impression are rather vocal about their opinions and dismissive of anyone's rationality that disagrees with them in the least. It may not be a true impression in all cases, but it is certainly the impression. I've met a few who consider any form of faith a mental illness and take quite a bit of delight in insulting all theism. There aren't many conclusions to draw from that.

2). I often get the impression that atheists think it's OK for an atheist to be intolerant, kill, and murder. That doesn't count. The religionist, however, it's evidence of the intolerance of religion. These sorts of comments persist in spite of the fact that atheism in government has never produced anything but tyranny and cruelty. Since the history is available for anyone to review, I can only assume that at least a good bit of the atheists consider it acceptable.

3). It's almost always emotional (all the way down to the atheist persecutions in the 20th century). They don't just disbelieve in God; they seem be incensed at even the thought of it.

Truth be told, these things aren't all one-sided, but these things certainly do give us the impression of hate.

I can see why they might think that...lol.

I kid the Christians, but seriously. When we use terms like "atheist" or "Christian" on here, we're obviously making sweeping generalizations. I try to make it clear that I'm criticizing a creed, and not necessarily the people who claim to subscribe to it - if only because, in practice, they usually don't at all. But I think atheists have a rhetorical advantage here, because Christians as such have a laundry list of things they're *supposed* to believe in, whereas "atheists" are simply people who disbelieve in God. I, as an "atheist," can demonstrate that a given point of religious doctrine is absurd or immoral or factually wrong, and thereby justifiably impugn a person who claims to adhere to the religion that espouses that doctrine; and all he has to work with in rebuttal is that I don't believe in "God."

I know I've made remarks on here that Christians have taken personally, and they probably think I hate them, but if we met in real life, I'm sure we'd have no problem making friends. Most people are much more bigoted in theory than in practice...lol. But on here, we're all just opinions, and guess what - even if we were all "Christian," there'd still be no agreement on anything. (I love watching the misc. Christians gang up on the "JW's" and vice-versa.)

I think most Christians are used to people questioning their faith.
I personally do not assume that Atheists hate me, although I have seen a lot of them call all Christians stupid etc...but hey everyone in here seems to fling insults.
When I became a Christian I was away from home and when I returned it was to a family who were all non-believers, I thought they would be unhappy or angry even, but they were supportive.
I respect their beliefs and they respect mine.

--AS FAR AS MOST , I do not know where you get that sweeping statistic, but I doubt that it is that accurate! "MOST" carries a lot of judgement, you would be more reasonable with tempering by use of "some"

--SOME OF THE comments by our resident atheists carry a mean stab, if not hatred!
--SOME OF THE so-called christians also have expressed some serious animosity ----opposite Christs example & attitude!

--There is an interesting expression that should be practiced on both sides: "You can disagree without being disagreeable"--and that also alows for righteous indignation --NOT threatening indignation!

--BEFORE YOU start judging you ought to get your statistics right! AND look at both sides!

I'm a Christian and I don't think that atheists hate me. I think that some Christians feel that way because they expect atheists to be hateful which isn't the case. Some Christians, unfortunately are close minded or they just don't know anything other then theirselves.

Most atheists are very responsible, good people. Unfortunately, the ones in this section aren't those. We get the bottom of the barrell ones, commonly referred to as bashers and trolls. Just look at the answers already, that proves we don't have the intelligent, thinking group, we have that bottom of the barrell group, bored kids, most likely between the ages of 12 and 15, considing the immaturity of the answers. We can't think all atheists are like that, and we can't judge all atheists on these guys. The real atheists don't hang out in this site, for obvious reasons. The atheists I know do not spend all their time insulting those of faith, they have real lives.

People question my faith all the time. I have a lot of atheist friends. It's no big deal. There are many other areas we can find common ground on, aside from religion.

I don't think they (Christians) hate you but as in most religions when you do not think the way they do they get abit paranoid and feel that you represent the devil, or some3thing of that nature. What they do not grasp is you have no animosity or evil intent toward them, as amatter of fact you do not care one way or the other about their beliefs.
