There are lasik procedures that can be done for astigmatisms now. But you have to meet certain requirements, like having no change in your vision for more than 2 years.
Otherwise, it's glasses and contacts!

Astigmatism is typically caused by an irregularity of your 1) cornea 2) crystalline lens or 3) mixture of both. The only way to get rid of your astigmatism is through lasik or other refractive surgeries. You can compensate for your astigmatism by wearing glasses or contact lenses. At least 20% of the patients i see have astigmatism. Dont worry about it, as it is almost as common as being nearsighted/farsighted. Depending on your type of astigmatism, it can go away but it is very unlikely.

Astigmatism means that, instead of your lens being round, it's a football shape. Unless you have some sort of lasik surgery, no, you cannot "get rid" of it.
Be careful with surgeries like that. Some people are under the impression that you will never need glasses again afterwards. That's far from the truth. If you are very nearsighted (myopia), and have this surgery... you'll still eventually need glasses for farsightedness (hyperopia).

I recently had cataract surgery (implants) and at the same time had what the surgeon called "relaxing incisions" to lessen astigmatism. I can't say whether they really helped or not, as the implants did away with my life-long nearsightedness and destroyed my good near vision, so everything in my vision is different now from what it was before the surgery. Distance vision is now dramatically better and near vision is dramatically worse. So I offer no testimonial, just the information that such surgery exists.
