They feel threatened, so it is a natural response to act out of fear for something that they cannot or will not understand

Remember that as we strive to become more Christ-like, we are naturally creating an environment within us where the Holy Spirit can dwell. Now, take that reasoning, but apply it to the other end of the spiritual spectrum. What kind of spirit would possess those people who try to establish the idea that there is no God and that the Bible is just "full of lies"? As you think about that reasoning, it becomes clearer as to why some atheists behave like that.

What's interesting is that within the Book of Mormon, it shows an account where an atheist tries to lead astray many believers to do diverse sinning and such. You can find this account at the following address:

http://scriptures.lds.org/en/alma/30

If you happen to have a missionary giveaway version of the Book of Mormon handy, then the account is in the book of Alma, chapter 30, all verses, starting on page 280. If you feel that you are being pelted by a bunch of verbal attacks from atheists, then please read this Alma chapter 30. It will give you both enlightenment and encouragement and even understanding and love towards those who hate christianity.

After that reading assignment, feel free to read Alma's discourse on faith, which is in Alma, chapter 32, all verses, page 288. That too is a nice one to read and ponder through. The web address for that one is:

http://scriptures.lds.org/en/alma/32

May God continue to bless you. I know you will get your understanding soon enough.

Sincerely,
Alvin R.

I'm an atheist. I don't hate anyone for believing in God. I have many Christian friends and family members that I love dearly.

But...

I despise those who use their belief in God to justify undeserved arrogance, bigotry, censorship, and irrational thought.

I think many Christians are confused. When they preach hell-fire and brimstone nonsense to an atheist they shouldn't expect to be well received. All most atheists ask is for Christians to keep their faith personal and out of American law, politics, and the classroom.

So it's about respect. You'll get what you give.

-Nope. Einstein was not a devout Christian by any stretch. That's a lie perpetrated by Christians since his death. Einstein made it clear that he did not believe in a personal or a Christian "God". That said, he wasn't an atheist either, but rather a man of undefined spirituality.

-So you say you're not forcing anyone to accept your religion, just showing them the door? This shows blatant disrespect for anyone who doesn't already follow your brand of dogma. Have you no shame? Spirituality, or lack of, is personal. For you to assume others should find the door to your "God" is arrogant, plain and simple.

And still you wonder why you're not well received by atheists? I'd bet my big left toe that you're not very popular with Jews or Buddhists either.

For some that don’t believe in God, really don’t believe in God, they simply can’t conceive of what God means to us. They have no clue about the joy and peace, the love and the comfort we find through God’s Holy Spirit.

So being unable to understand what we feel, some feel disgust at us. Some think we’re delusional. Some think that we are clinging to something that isn’t real because we can’t cope with our own lives.

I understand all this because I used to be on that side of the fence. I never ridiculed Christians; I always thought they had a right to their beliefs. But I did feel a certain sense of superiority as in, Well maybe they need this because that’s all they have.

Now I know better. I know the miracle of God’s love.

To my fellow Christians don’t be angry at them. They simply have no idea what we have found.

Be patient. Some of them may come to understand in their own time.

Be forgiving. Yes, some of the stuff on here is pretty outrageous, but since they don’t know God in a very personal and profound way, they really don’t know any better.

Pray for everybody on this site.

Why do you hate the Greek's gods? Why do you believe they don't exist?

Anger comes from a lot of persecution over a long time from the religious reich.

Your additional comments are stupid. When was the last time and Atheist attacked you physically claiming you were wrong? I can name hundreds of times that wars were started over your religion however. Christians don't believe in mathematics or science. Both of those show that evolution occured and the world isn't 6000 years ago.

Why is it that Christians state that since we do not believe in a God then we will fry forever in the pits of hell? Is that nice at all to say? Christians are created, their minds are brainwashed from birth to believe in what they do, and told if they do not worship that particular God and most importantly give money to the church, that they will roast in hell forever. Can you see how offensive that is to someone who does not believe? I have no problems with what a Christian believes, but please do not try to force that on me. I already think that they are simple minded for having to have a imaginary friend, but then they bring up this Hell thing and expect me to believe that as well and threaten me with roasting forever. Are they honestly that stupid that they think that if there was a Devil that he/she/it would do anything that God wanted? What would Satan's motivation be................nothing, since he and God supposedly do not see eye to eye. But yet Christians firmly have been brainwashed into believing that God will send you there and Satan will do God's bidding. That is the biggest oxymoron ever.
In addition, since Christians are so quick to want to tell you their beliefs and how silly you are for not coming over to their side (the dark side), then how come they hate it when atheists point out the flaws in their religion. If you are willing to dish it out, then be willing to take it as well. Christians have been making fun and murdering/torturing people for millenia for having other beliefs, so take some of your own medicine.

Same reason some Christians just plain hate Athiests for not believing in God. People are just intolerant of others who don't share their own oppinion. Personally I'm a part of a huge group of friends who are Christian, Muslim, Athiest, Hindu, Buddist, you name it. We're all very close as if we were family. We've just learned to accept each others religious beliefs. I'm not saying that we don't get into huge debates because we do, but we always keep them fun, and the key is that we respect each other.

Why would a christian hate an atheist for not believing in "god"?
I am an atheist and I don't hate religious people. I only want to open their eyes to reality.

Because there are ummm... jerks in every group. Unfortunately the jerks are the loudest and the most obnoxious.

In my group of friends, we have a Atheist, two Agnostic, a Catholic, a "Christian", two Buddist, a Taoist, a Wicca/Hindu type of person and we get along very well.

It's not the religon, they're just jerks. And there are jerks in every group, race, religon, affiliations, etc..

Overall, atheists don't 'hate' the Christian God.

I think they just get annoyed when some Christians feel the need to parrot on about their religion 24/7. (It admittedly can get kind of aggravating being the constant target of proselytization.)

Someone who doesn't believe god exists would have a hard time hating god.

Atheists in general don't hate Christians. What is hated is the way Christians want to force their beliefs onto everyone.
