I don't have stats for you but I know that where I am from, it is very rare. I am currently living in a small town in the Midwest where it appears to be relatively common. Life is pretty simple here. Attending college is the exception rather than the norm. People tend to have "jobs" rather than "careers," so there is less reason to delay settling down.
This is something I've thought a lot about. It seems like the people who marry young and are successful, tend to be simple people whose personalities do not have a lot of evolving yet to do. This is a generalization but it fits those I've met, who married young, and are still married.
My advice to you, if you have a high school sweetheart, and are worrying about where it will lead, is to just enjoy the moment. Focus on fun. I realize that the end of the school year is nearing, and your sweetheart may be going off to college. Still, your best bet is to assume a "Que sera sera" attitude.
So, irregardless of where you live, I wish you a long, lasting love!

Sometimes it works, sometime it doesn't. Teen marriages have a higher failure rate. My boyfriend's parents were high school sweethearts. They got married young (around 20 and 22) and they've been married almost 30 years. My cousin married her high school sweetheart at 23 and they were divorced the next year. It really depends on the people invovled and their maturity level. People change over time - you might find that while you loved the person they were at 15, you might not love them so much at 25.

I dont know and I dont care, but I know I married my high school crush which isnt the same. We were great friends in high school but nothing more. He had girlfriends, I had boyfriends (I was always into older guys, like out of high school). But I always had a crush on him. After high school we each went our separate ways, then met up again, started dating, fell in love, and got married. I love to tell this story and I'm giving you the incredibly short version of it. Isnt love great! We've been married for almost 4 years next June.

I'm marrying mine in June. We've been together since my Junior year in High School. We've been together almost four years. We both knew from the start that we wanted to marry each other, and that it was just a matter of time.

I married mine, we dated through college and married at age 22, we are soon to celebrate our 10 year anniversary and I've never been happier. BUT, we're one of 2 couples from our high school class that are still together, everyone else has ended in divorce.

No stats for ya here...but I am marrying my high school sweet heart very soon! If you are serious about marriage and are truly in it for the long haul, then high school sweet heart or not, it is going to work!

i think it might be very small. it is true that is it sweet and cute that they stay together for a long time but the truth is. after a while they get bored of each other and want to experiment with different things in life and want to feel how it is to be with other people.
