are always on the defensive when someone try to talk to them about God? They are always so quick to point out that the bilbe says "do not judge" but yet, they claim they dont beleive in the Bible. They are always so quick to point out your sins when you try to talk to them about what theyre doing. No TRUE Christian will ever, ever say that they do not sin. It seems to me that free speech is mostly for those who are not Christians. because, in schools, teachers cant say "Christmas Break" but they can say happy Hanukah (and that is not a pass at the Jews). i just want to know if anyone else see this too. im not saying to start a rebellion or anything. i just want to hear other peoples opinions.

p.s. please, if youre gonna say something ignorant...keep it to yourself.

Despite common belief to the contrary, many of the Founding Fathers were NOT Christians. They did respect each others' beliefs and felt that that was important to a new nation that was going to try hard to get it right.

They had seen the confusion and violence that mixing religion with politics had caused in England and other countries (something that we often forget) and wanted non of it. That is why the bill of rights though it protected religious rights recognized them as something that needed to be separate from the government and laws.

As far as free speech, Christians like many theists may not be aware of it, but they are constantly broadcasting their faith like a little bullhorn. They would utterly fail in a "don't ask, don't tell" environment.
How often does an atheist tack on "because there is no god" to an argument about new taxes? How often does an atheist call out "Go with lack-of-god" to someone who is leaving?
Since theists are constantly thinking about their faith, they are also constantly verbalizing it at people, many of which become frustrated with the barrage.

As far as your teacher slipping up and saying "Happy Hanukah", I would say that either she is Jewish and unconsciously broadcasting her religion (like a bullhorn), or she is showing off that she knows how to read a calendar.

Why call it Christmas anyway? Christians and non-Christians all agree that Christ was born in the spring.
How would you feel if you were the ONLY Christian in the area and people CONSTANTLY told you to have a happy Saturnalia?

Being Agnostic - I have no problem if someone wishes me a merry Christmas or a happy Hanukkah. Don't care if they call the holidays that - they holidays are what they are.

Want to erect a 10 Commandment statue in front of the courthouse - fine by me. There is historical significance to the US laws.

Where I get mad is when people tell me that I am sinning, will go to hell, and try to convert me - after they know I am an agnostic, and have fully considered most of the major religions out there. I've made up my mind people. Now, if you have something new to say - I'll consider it. That's a part of being agnostic. However, most people don't, and I get tired of hearing the same arguments over and over again. Finally, I find it interesting that most religious people will preach to you all day long, but as soon as you try to discuss god with them (or lack thereof), they turn off their ears and brains. Those people are hypocrites - plain and simple.

Honestly? I use that passage because I am told I am wrong, I am going to hell, I am evil, I worship the Devil, the list goes on and on. My point to a Christian doing this is that I might not believe in the Bible, but they do. And if they do, they should follow its passages. I always use the May he who is with out sin one though. Christians believe they are always sinners...there for they have no right to judge me. I think its arrogant to put ones self above a Divine and pretend to know their mind.
I think all religious holidays should be put out of school. School isn't for religion. As for Christmas, they can just say Happy Holidays. That covers all of it with no offense.
Yes people get frusterated with having conform to the non majority, but that is what America is all about. The underdog, the persacuted and the trampled on. Remember, it was the underdogs who won the Revalutionary War.

I hear ya, but unfortunately people just cannot seem to be tolerant of the fact that EVERYONE has the freedom to believe what they choose. I have friends with many different beliefs and love each and every one of them. They know that I believe in and love God, and they accept me as well. This site sometimes seems to just be a big bashing board and no matter what you believe in, or what you say, there will always be someone waiting to insult you =0)

why? because we are happy with our faiths and do not want anothers forced upon us. Has it ever occurred to the christian community that if a person was at a spiritual low point and they thought christianity would help then then THEY would come to YOU? perhaps you would gain more sincere followers than the usual bible thumping "we're better than you" believers if you stopped trying to force your way into every aspect of our culture with the fire and brimstone sideshow. If you did that you might win some respect from those who do not share your faith instead of the scorn most of christianity richly deserves

People say that because people who try to preach anything to them are ignorant. No one wants to hear about your religion, keep it to yourself.

Oh I'm not defensive, quite offensive in fact (generally starting with pointing out the more obvious contradctions in christianity)

Generally, by nature, your religion is offensive to a great number of people.

It is how the world is. It is a non-Christian media we live in. If your going to be on this why should atheist be on a relgious help column trying to help people with their "religious knowlege"?
