For some "demons", I would say most addictions.
If you consider something that takes away options and forces someone to do certain acts that defy normal values as "demonic", then addiction to illegal drugs, alcohol, gambling, and a few other behaviors probably fall into this category. To see the if a certain "addiction" could be like a "demon", then all one has to see is its effects, its fruits.
If the "addiction" in question is harming the person in multiple ways, like physical health, financial ruin, emotional outbursts towards family members and close friends, then this is obviously "demonic". Such a thing needs to be somehow
"exorcised" out of that individual before more harm is done.
This line of reasoning is probably why many churches try to stay away from gambling, illegal drugs, and excessive tobacco and alcohol.
Well that should cover some "demons", but not all.
Thanks for letting me share.

Demons has the best connatation as to what they do. They're also, "Fallen Angels", "Muderers" (body, soul, & spirit), and "Nothing Seekers".
395 The power of Satan is, nonetheless, not infinite. He is only a creature, powerful from the fact that he is pure spirit, but still a creature. He cannot prevent the building up of God's reign. Although Satan may act in the world out of hatred for God and his kingdom in Christ Jesus, and although his action may cause grave injuries - of a spiritual nature and, indirectly, even of a physical nature- to each man and to society, the action is permitted by divine providence which with strength and gentleness guides human and cosmic history. It is a great mystery that providence should permit diabolical activity, but "we know that in everything God works for good with those who love him."

a demon, or an angel that fell in Lucifer's rebellion, is a spirit being who's final state comes earlier than man's: man's comes at his death, angel's comes at his decision. spirit beings can communicate with other spirit beings and also have the ability to "quicken", overshadow or possess a carnal body. you've likely heard of demon possession, and of course the Holy Spirit (God) is in His Temple (those born into His family).
demons have ranks. there's the imp, the lowest rank: imps can only cause insanity and aren't very good at actually controlling a person. there's the mid-level demon: this demon has more control than an imp, and can actually bend a person's will; these demons are also known to cause strange supernatural experiences, such as talking a voice other than the range that person can normally have, or even sickness. there's devils: high ranking demons who have near-total control of a person, even able to mimick human behavior; the antichrist for example will be devil-possessed. then there's Satan: he's the dictator and the most 'powerful' demon, and of course is the highest ranking devil.
demons also can recognize rank, as they get seven worse than themselves if they are cast out and God (the Holy Spirit) is not brought in. like angels, a demon is referred to as a spirit, and demons have a 'spirit of....' title based on what they can do. as beings, demons were created with certain talents and abilities to worship God and as they are beings, these can't just be erased. for example, Satan was created for musical worship, and so he is good with words and being attractive to people.
but angels are diminished in power when they rebel against God. it's almost like God is their source of power aside form their beinghood. the Bible says one person with the Holy Spirit in them (even of new faith) is greater than the devil.
is there a better name, I don't think so. they are what they are. unless you want to call humans "the embodiment of a specified soul and spirit inherant to a certain carnal form".

"Demons" fits their name perfectly. It's from the word δαιμόνιον. The word denotes a "lesser divinity" that is not a god. Socrates said he had a daemonion advising him. In Christianity, there is one God, so the gods of the nations are daemonia, and because we believe them to be fallen angels masquerading as gods, we also believe them to be evil.
I can't think of a better word for those entities.

GREEN MEANIES, like in the Yellow Submarine movie.
I've had experiences with Green evil beings.
Most evil spirits are probably lost human souls.
Or elemental beings, which don't have a conscience like human souls do.
