here's a true story to make you smile :)
When my middle daughter was about 5, and my son about 7 - he lost a tooth. OK, so we put teeth under pillows in my home. The kids know dad will sneak a twoonie under their pillow late at night while they sleep, and my son was really looking forward to going to the corner store with his twoonie....
so anyway - he lost the tooth - literally. I suggest that he and my daughters search for the tooth. He's upset, and rightly so - when my middle daughter laughs at him. (now you probably know that it's about age 5 when kids become aware that that it's sometimes fun to laugh at others misfortune.... so I had been gently training her when these feelings arose, which they did not often do).... so she makes fun of my son - saying something like "haw haw, you lost your tooth", and he runs upstairs. I tell my daughter, you know, your brother is really sad that he's lost his tooth, and he was really looking forward to going to the store, you know, like you will when you lose your first tooth - maybe you can help him feel better by helping him look for it?... Well, my daughter is quite sensitive and gets all serious. She quiety goes upstairs all the while thinking. Shortly she returns to me with a piece of paper. She shows me the paper and says, Mommy, I drew this picture of Michael's tooth. Can he put this picture under his pillow and daddy will take it instead of the real tooth?
