I am writing a research paper over Teaching Bible literacy, and I am about to start talking about how many ministers may want teaching the Bible to be placed in the hands of a bunch of "unqualified liberals." Is there a passage in the Gospels to back up the point that those "unqualified liberals" have the right to teach the Bible? ANything would help.

Jesus told his disciples to go make more disciples so that those disciples could make more disciples...and so it goes. (Matthew 28:19,20) In a letter that Paul wrote to the christian congregation, he said: "Do your utmost to present yourself approved to God, a workman with nothing to be ashamed of, handling the word of the truth aright." - 2 Timothy 2:15.

Also, at Titus 2:7,8 it talks about how our actions and speech need to be uncorrupted, and serious while we're preaching about God's kingdom. No where in the Bible does it say anything about how smart you have to be to preach to people. However, we should make sure that what we're teaching people is the truth, based solely on the Bible and not that of mere human opinions. Hope I've helped.

The gospels say a few things along those lines, but the most important facts about teaching are in the book of Acts, which show how the early Church handled its business. Here is a good verse for you. 1 Timothy 3:15 states: ......you should know how to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, the PILLAR and FOUNDATION of TRUTH." (emphasis mine) Now, if the Church is the pillar and foundation of truth, then the Church had the obligation and the God-given authority to teach, not just any minister. And seeing that there are 36,000+ Christian denominations (churches) out there, which one holds the "pillar and foundation of truth." Contradictory statements can't simeltaneously be true, that goes against just the basics of human logic, so ONE church must hold the teaching authority. It is the Holy Catholic Church, my friend.

And by the way, you are not wasting your life writing this paper like another answerer stated.....good luck.

My friend Nic B is correct... about there being only one true church. My beliefs differ from his as to which church however. Only those who have authority from God (also known as the priesthood) can preach the gospel. This authority doesn't come from attaining a masters degree in theology or just plainly having a knowledge of scripture. This must be passed on by those holding the keys of the priesthood, by the laying on of hands.
The true church is founded apon Profits and Apostles. (Eph 2:20)

Well it should be common sense that the best qualified to teach the bible is one who is unbiased by religious intent; liberal, conservative or otherwise.

According to scripture, you have an obligation to teach God's word accurately!

Actually, no one has the right to interpret the Bible except the Church.

Jesus Christ did not promise that every Christian could infallibly interpret Scripture. Instead, the Holy Spirit guides the CHURCH to all truth.

In the book of Timothy it says the Church is the "pillar and foundation of truth" and in Matthew 16:18 Christ says that even hell cannot prevail against the Church.

These promises are never made to individual Christians. So it doesn't matter if you are liberal or conservative - you have no authority to interpret Holy Writ.

Mark 16:15

And He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation."

He didn't qualify who could teach it.
