Matthew 8:21-22
21Another disciple said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
22But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."
(what type of sensitive role model is that)

John 2:3-4
3When the wine was gone, Jesus' mother said to him, "They have no more wine."
4"Woman, why do you involve me?" Jesus replied, "My time has not yet come."
(what type of honor and respect is that to show a parent)

Luke 14:26
26"If anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother, his wife and children, his brothers and sisters—yes, even his own life—he cannot be my disciple.
(Supposedly jesus was someone who preached peace and love but here he's saying staight up that to be in the respected position of one of his disiples you have to hate everyone and everything including in case you missed it YOUR FAMILY AND EVEN YOUR OWN CHILDREN. thats an absolutely terrible thing to say let alone require of people)

Its sad that 2 billion ppl look up to him

Dead bury the dead...it may seem insensitive to who don't realize that there really is no death and why make a big deal to bury a husk. Do you cry when you throw away old shirts to put on new ones? Jesus wanted to point out that death is no big deal and is only a big deal to those who think they are the body. Furthermore, Jesus was touching upon the point detachment from the world - including one's family.

what type of honor and respect is that to show a parent - Jesus' mother was trying to tempt or guilt Jesus into performing a miracle. His reprimand that it was not yet time is just, furthermore...this does not mean Jesus did not honor and respect his mother. Reprimanding even a parent when they go wrong is actually to honor and respect them - it is dishonoring and disrespectful to just let them wallow in error.

hate his father and mother, etc...again, Jesus did not literally mean hate...as his message was love and peace. He meant you should not be attached to family. Your highest duty is to God...not your family. So you are to be detached from them.

Try understanding instead of judging.

I would have to say that you should read the entire passage not just a couple of verses. You took each of these verses out of context, especially Luke 14:26. This verse is saying that Jesus doesn't want his disciples to sacrifice their families and their children to be his disciples, rather he wants those who have no children, no families and those who don't have a loving relationship with their parents. And mercy is not the same thing as sensitivity or honor or respect... mercy is compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one's power... this was shown when Jesus sacrificed his life to pay the debt for my sin...he payed for yours too, but if you choose to pay that debt yourself you will spend eternity in hell.

Well, if you had a grasp on first century Jewish culture you might understand this a little more. It was common to illustrate your point by an extreme exaggeration: your first and third points illustrate this. The whole honoring your parent thing is important, but He was mainly telling his mother that he was not some trick pony to do really cool things when she wanted him to.

I believe that with fact the we are alive and don't deserve it he is merciful, Sometimes parent's carry bad habits that will only hurt us, when some one is dead they are gone, we that are alive should worry about each other. A little tip pray before you read the bible or the devil can confuse you dresses as a angel.

Dear Bogges,

I think you ought to read the entire Bible. It is a miracle that God (Jesus Christ) would have mercy on any of us. Remember, we rebelled against Him. If God were only righteous and just, ALL of us should end up in the lake of fire. Thank the Lord for His great mercy!

God needed to try a different approach. God failed with Adam and Eve, and then he flooded the Earth to rid the downfall of man. Since he did not want to flood the Earth again, he made jesus pay for our sins.

When he said hate he was using an idiom. like when I ask what's up I don't expect a literal answer. To hate something is to love it less than what you really love.

Ex. compared to Pizza I hate macaroni and cheese.
I like it fine...but I love it less.

His point is you have to choose Him over everything else in life.

the people who were burying him weren't upright people.

woman was a term of respect. it meant "not a virgin, but a female of dignity, and not a prostitute".

God comes first. if you'd keep your family from knowing God, you have a problem.

If I took some things you have said throughout your life and posted them out of context, I guess you might look like an egotistical jerk, too.

But then, that wouldn't be fair, would it?
