I'm waiting for NHS Direct to call me back, but they're taking ages and thought I'd ask you lot in the meantime.

Just thought I'd better add - I've read info for both medicines and can't find any warnings saying not to combine and can't find that the Tixylix contains paracetamol or other pain killer.
He's settled now so it's not urgent, but I know he'll have a much better night if he's not coughing all night.

Yes, it's perfectly safe. I got the same advice a while ago for one of mine.

Yeah I believe so. I give my 3 year old ough medicine and calpol.
When shes really ill I give her both of those AND baby neurofen. Doc said its okay. You just can't overdose them on too much calpol (paracetamol) or too much neurofen (ibuprofen) or too much cough medicine (not sure!) but all together is ok.
You can ring any pharmacist and just ask to talk to the pharmacist and they'll tell you. If your local one isnt open 24 hour, just search in google for a 24 hour one and ring them if you want confirmation to make you feel better but calpol and cough meds are fine

Just give the cough medicine for now as calpol really is for reducing a temperature and you dont mention that he/she has one. Perhaps put some cooler clothing on or take some blankets off.

I'd err on the side of using one or the other.
But check the labels and ingredinets (I guess you have) and make sure that you would not be re-doubling any painkiller, or 'overdoseable' content.

I'm not sure - if they're taking too long to call back, call your pharmacy - the pharmacist is generally right there and will be able to tell you.

Calpol is all strawberry paracetomol. As long as there is no paracetomol in the tixylix, you should be OK.
