Whats the best solid food to introduce the kitten to? Whats the best way to do this? I've tried to feed him out of a little lid, but he sucks the edge and when it gets too low to suck, he sniffs the formula and freaks out (it's cuteee) but I want him to be on schedule. Please help! Thanks!

start with soft kitten food or even wet foods that come in cans like fancy feast they make some for kittens. Id start with regular kitten food but mostin it with some water just enough that they dont have to chew hard to eat it. If this doesnt work, then its not time to ween the kitten yet. And if that happens wait another 2 weeks and it should be fine...

I just finished bottle feeding four myself. Unfortunately, at 4 weeks old, regardless of whether or not they have teeth - they are still not ready to wean. Give him another week or so before trying. Then try the following: You cannot go straight to solid food, soft or otherwise. You continue to use mixed formula, and slowly add a little moist food - really soupy and then let him at it. Only miss one bottle feed to offer the soupy mix - do not let him go for more than four hours without eating. They need every drop of nutrition at this age and can really go downhill quick without it. They are ready to wean at about the same time that they become interested in using a litterbox. Good luck! It will be worth it when you're done, because you are mom and always will be!

You don't wean him. Mama will do that when the time is right.
In a few weeks you can start making a small amount of moist kitten food available for him. But listen to Mama, she'll let you know when her babies are ready for solid food.
Cats have been doing this on their own for thousands of years so actually she probably doesn't need your help at all.

Just keep trying, eventually he will get the idea. No hurry, as long as mom is still nursing him, don't worry.

I don't agree with him being on a schedule. Cats can get overweight by doing that because they eat even when they are not hungry because they don't know when they get to eat again. Keep kitten chow out for him to free feed. At least for the 1st year. You will have a healthier cat that way. You can feed the wet also, but leave dry available.

When I had to help a momma cat with a litter of kittens, what I did was put a TEENY bit of canned milk on kitten chow and offer that. They were curious about this new stuff, and momma cat was quite willing to let them eat it.

By the time their teeth were fully in, they were used to solid food.

well first of all a 4 week old kitten is to young to be taken away from the mother,

you should phone the vet or bring back the kitten to mommy for another 4 weeks.

you can also call the vet and ask for advice on what you can do.

Try wet food, but mash it up a little so its easier for him to digest. Also seperate him from his mom about an hour before feeding him the food so hes hungrey enough to try the food and every week mash the food up a little less so he gets used to harder and harder food and seperate him from his mom an hour before until u see him start to suckle less and less. Feed him this food about 3 times a day. eventually he should start trying to eat the food out of his moms dish. Sometimes though the mom will just stop letting the kitten suckle until he decides to try the food.

get you some kitten food and let it soak in either warm skim milk of water. if you don't want to use milk you can get cat formule at wal mart or just about any store that has pet supplies. little by little reduce the liquid letting the food stay harder till their ready to eat it like that. just as you start to ween her make sure to warm on the regural basis all kittens develope warms cause of the switch.

Put kitten food in a saucer, and pour a LITTLE bit of formula on it, just enough to get the food a little soggy. Gradually lessen the amount of formula.

All you have to do is leave out a bowl of KITTEN food for momma cat and she will show your kitten what to do. Your kitten is really almost too young to be eating solid foods yet. You will want to wait a few weeks before weaning.
