The Masonic 5 pts of Fellowship, along with other nonessential elements of the Endowment, were eliminated in 1990 and are therefore no longer a part of the endowment.
It was used for the members of the time, since many of the members were Masons, to impress the seriousness of the endowment upon their minds.
In masonic society, breaking your fellowship to the society was punishable by extreme means, sometimes even leading up to death. Because God has the power to both give and take away life, it was a very poignant example of how members needed to treat the temple ceremonies.
You seem to know a lot about them already, so you should know that Joseph didn't "steal" the masonic ceremony from the masons, but simply took and borrowed several of their layout and administration ideas for carrying out the restored "true" endowment that God took away from the Earth during the Apostasy.

Mormons still confuse the word "Sacred" with "Stupid" as translated correctly. The Temple ceremony was initiated several weeks after J Smith was made Master Mason.
But, the TBMs claim, JS fixed up the rites the way God said it's supposed to be. Then they changed it several times to remove the ugly and touchy parts.
God works in mysterious ways, and occasionally forgets what he's doing.

Good luck on this one, they will not tell you they reckon its sacred. No religion should have secrets. It is mainly because it occult type rituals that go on There are some good books out there that go through it though. Most of it is a direct rip off from the masons. Old Mormon for Jesus above me will swear that the mormons dont practise blood atonement but they used to swear to have themselves slit from ear to ear and their blood poored upon the ground to atone for their sins.
