Am keeping separate from other birds. The area around and above the left nostril is knobby. The bird is about 11 and wasn't well cared for. Is this an infection or something to see an avian vet about? The food and water dishes were not kept clean and the bird was fed the worst diet possible. The avian vet is a 2 hour drive but I will get vet care if this requires it. The beak is not powdery as my other cockatoos are.

I would get this bird to an avian vet immediately.

I am so glad you are keeping him separate from the other birds. Make sure you take care of this bird at the end of your bird chores to be absolutely safe.

There are many diseases that birds can get one of the scariest is PBFD. I have provided a link below.

You seem to have great bird sense, and I am sure you know that when a bird is sick he can deteriorate very fast.

Best of luck to you. You are very kind to have saved him from a horrible life. My Moluccan is 17 years old and he had a similarly bad life when I rescued him at age 5.

i do not opt to be the bearer of undesirable information, yet there ought to correctly be different motives for the feathers being that way... the most hassle-free are that the fowl once shredded or plucked its feathers, or yet another fowl plucked it... each and every each and every now and then regrowth isn't"known". yet another accessible reason is a sickness, observed as Psitticine Beak & Feather sickness.. it really is a deadly sickness. Then there are different harmless motives; a calcium deficiency can influence the feel of the feathers, being bathed can melt a birds' feathers, then there can merely be "comfortable" feathers, lol... I have 3 cockatoos; one umbrella and a couple of more effective Sulpher Cresteds, between the sulphur cresteds has very comfortable and fluffy feathers... he has been given a applicable nutrition regimen in view that i have had him; he has molted once and the hot feathers got here in comfortable & fluffy a useless ringer for the former ones... So, having suggested all this, if the birds' beak does no longer look flaky-looking; even if it really is more effective delicate and under no circumstances crusty looking - and the toenails look delicate and under no circumstances cracked looking then i wouldn't problem about the feathers. by the way, 10 is nowhere close to being previous for a Moluccan. seventy 5 should be previous.
