What causes some people to be overly sensitive?

They have the emotional equivalent of thin skin, maybe because they've alredy been hurt in some way, maybe because their biology makes them that way or their upbringing taught them to be that way.

I'd rather have thin skin than be insensitive myself.

i agree with compassionate-angel the higher the IQ or smarter the person is the more this person can pick up on thing and understand them and the lower the IQ well its said they don't care because they don't understand
but its the choices we make the determine the answer to your question you can choose to find good happiness and wellbeen everything i believe this will make you stronger person and not as sensitive or you can choose to find all the negatives and bad and hatred in thing and understand it and this can bring a person down especially if the person has a high IQ cause they will understand it more and as time goes by they will start to feel that way and any remark said to them even if meant in humor can have painfull affect on them

Believe it or not, I have found that the more intellegent someone is, the more sensitive to everything they seem to be,..but certainly,..environmental factors play a huge roll , eg,.upbringing, being made fun of, etc...
