I don't think its about giving up all your freedom, I think its more that some people would be willing to give up a few of their freedoms to allow the government to protect people better. I think I would sleep better knowing that if my luck ever turned and I was broke that I wouldn't have to resort to living on the streets and diving through dumpsters. We pay a little extra taxes, its basically giving thanks to the government for all the oppertunities we're given, and its helping give less fortunate people some oppertunities. Socialism tries to equal things out more, and it has never worked because it has never been went about in a honest and truthful way. If we used a version of capitolism with a little bit of socialism mixed in (we already have some, such as FDIC and market regulation), we could make sure that everybody has some relative safety. I think of it that you never know when your luck is going to turn. Help others out and when you need help, there will be people there to give you a little extra help to get on your feet. Its an insurance of types.

How to answer this question if i am an atheist?
God doesnt exist in my believes.
So, if i believe in god, do we owe
EVERYTHING to GOD?
I dont think we owe EVERYTHING to GOD.
The beauty of family, the beauty of friendship, the beauty of love, the beauty of freedom, the beauty of being unseen things is not given.
But i think we owe SOMETHING to GOD.
The beauty of nature, the beauty of flora, the beauty of fauna, the beauty of earth, the beauty of water, the beauty of being seen things is given.
That answers of mine above tells that not everything is given free or we owe.
Some are given free, some are not.
Apparently, we need to preserve and take care of all the beauty of being seen things given by the GOD. That is what we owe.
But for the being unseen things, we are given free. Because that is all came from the minds of humans - Perception and Believes.
And that question of where humans come, it is eventually bounced back to GOD again and again it is back to HUMAN to believe or not to believe.
Cheers

We owe everything to God, not as a price for salvation, but because everything that we use comes from Him and we are merely His stewards. It is not free in the sense we can use it however we want.
The gift of salvation, however, is free in the sense that we did nothing to earn and God is under no obligation to provide it to us.
You seem to be using the word "free" ambiguously here, to mean "able to use however we want" in the first part of the question and "without cost; unearned" in the second.

I dont think we owe God because we were not given a choice in the matter.
That being said it might be appropriate for a person to be indebted to God.

What ever we get in this life is due to our actions in our previous lives. That is why someone is born blind or sick or healthy or rich or poor. It is all due to past karma (reaction to our actions) But ultimately God created everything and made the laws of material nature. But it is going on automatically with the service of his Superintendents of this world called demi-gods or higher angels. When one surrenders more and more to God he takes away our karmic reactions and we realize things as they truly are. This world is not our real home, it is called Maya (illusion) and is temporary and full of misery. For more info on this topic go to

The only people that I could see that I owe anything to would be my parents.
God is fiction.
My parents aren't. They have given freely to me.

it's a matter of what you give on your own will. if you give Him your soul, it's His, not yours. but as a human, you don't OWE God things. you follow Him out of free will, or you don't follow Him, using your free will.
as for is sin like a debt? yes. the Greek translation literally means a moral debt. so basically, it's like you break someone's nose, so you ateleast owe them an apology. For God, repentence. sorry doesn't fix that nose...

We have the choice to rejoin with the source of all things. What else is nature for but to show us the awe-inspiring nature of the absolute?
