First of all, the word "occult" means hidden. A cult is a crackpot's idea of religion. And, as someone who was raised in the mormon church and who to this day has to put up with the ignorance and preaching of numerous family members worried that my soul will end up in "outer darkness" because I left the church, I hope I can enlighten you as to the goings on of the mormons. First of all, the book of mormon isnt their own version of the bible--they still read passages from the bible and generally believe in what is written there-- the book of mormon is merely their sequel to the bible. And it one ups the bible because its written on tablets made of gold instead of brass -- ooh! And, when the freemason Joseph Smith decided to start his own religion and went into the woods to talk to blond haired blue eyed (jewish?) jesus (or, as some sources say a flaming salamander) the angel moron(i) told him where to find this magical sequel to the bible, AND where to find the special glasses that would translate it into modern english. Basically, he thought he could start his own religion and wrote a book into which he threw in a bunch of "and it came to pass"es, and thees and thous and all that rot.
But the reason I despise mormons and choose to think of them as a cult is the obvious racism and hipocracy. Sorry, but until the late 1980s the worst sin someone could commit was for a white person to breed with a black or brown person, because then you were knowingly giving your children the "mark of cain" and none of your family could enter the highest kingdom of heaven because you were less righteous in the premortal exsistence. Only in the 80s when the government threatened to take away the churches tax exempt status did they finally allow blacks to have the priesthood which was necessary for you to enter the celestial kingdom. There is also the part about how women cant enter the celestial kingdom unless they are married in the temple and have had children with a man who already holds the priesthood. Personally, I dont want to spend an eternity on my knees sucking their god's d*ck, so, they can have their celestial kingdom. One of the only good things that this "religion" has to offer is that -if you're really really good- you get to start your own universe. that sounds alright, but if I cant be drunk while I wait I dont think its worth it. Oh yeah, and caffiene in coffee or tea is still bad, but since they bought so much stock in pepsi, the "prophet" had a vision that driknking caffienated soda is a-ok. Anyway, didnt mean to be so verbose, but I had to get that off my chest because it seemed so many other people were just completely missing the mark.

I've never heard anyone say that the Mormons were an occult group. However, I've heard people refer to the LDS as being in a cult, mainly because their theology sometimes differs from that of mainstream Christianity. Some people are quick to toss around the word "cult" to describe beliefs that don't match theirs, although the word "cult" technically just means a body of believers.

They are not, they are considered Christians. The only people they are considered occults by are the ones who don't know or understand the religion.

Their theology is kind of weird, mormons becoming God;s or Goddesses and they still claim to be christians, sounds like wicca/christians to me, freemason rituals in their temples, a little poligamy, a weird Garden of eden story in the temple, which most Mormons do not knwo about unless they attend the temple. All sorts of other weird stuff, like satan and jesus being spiritual brothers, Cain's Mark being black skin. ect.

I think because the Mormon faith is just different from others-but not so different- that we look at it as extreme. Its the lifestyle and rules. I figure if people really learn about we wouldnt think it was so crazy, but all we see is whats on t.v.- Warren Jeffs.

Mormons just need better examples.

Of path no longer. You consider Satan WANTS individuals to KNOW Jesus Christ is the Savior??? Come on individuals. He DIDN"T simply make up "his possess" faith. He used to be advised by way of Alimighty God and by way of His Son, Jesus Christ to RESTORE the whole gospel to the earth. No one worships Joseph Smith. He is a prophet, identical to Moses, Adam, Aaron, Abraham, Nephi, Lehi... Satan CAN"T help Christ! Nothing GOOD comes from Satan!!!! ALL well matters come from God. And the Mormon church is not anything BUT well. Pull your head out individuals.

Mormon are a cult, as such, in that instead of fllowing the teachings of the bibhle and God they follow the teachings of a prophet who is alive in the church today. They do not follow the christian bible despite what they think and they do not follow the teachings of Jesus either. If you compare a lot of their doctrine and teachings you can see the vast difference between mainstream christianity and the Mormons.

people get the wrong ideas and often don't want to bother with the truth, so they say Mormons are a cult when we are not.

not sure. i have some very good friends who are LDS (one of which i have known since i was FIVE! we played on the same t-ball team, haha!) and i would hardly call their lifestyle "cult-like". in fact, it is just the opposite. they don't drink, smoke, do drugs...they don't curse very much either, and they always help people. not saying they are perfect, but i don't get where people get the "cult" title from. i guess people use to to scare people? i don't know.

peace :D

They're not.

Oh, and "occult" is an adjective. "Cult" is a noun.

You are "occult", or you are "a cult". You can't be "an occult", nor can you simply be just "cult".
