I have a node of Heberdine on my middle finger and it hurts, hurts, hurts. Its big and now it has a red dot in the center of it. It is inflamed and red. Isn't there some type of surgery that can be performed to take it off? I bang it alot and it's getting harder and harder to write, holding a pen is painful., and I do quite a bit of writing.

I think you mean node of Heberden or a Herberden node. This is a is a calcified spur (bony growth) of the joint cartilage and is a sign of osteoarthritis. These nodes are a sign of cartilage degeneration and there is no specific treatment. Treatment is geared to pain relief, minimizing inflammation and maintaining joint function.

Surgery is a last resort when all other treatments fail. It is not as simple as removing the spurs. When surgery is done to remove the spurs it is followed with fusing the joint or replacing the joint.

Please discuss your options with your doctor to come up with the best course of treatment for you.
