Surely you jest. This system will never be over such petty things. Despite the fact that race is not a biological reality, despite the fact that race is a social construct, it will always be an issue in this system.

Statistical purposes. They need to be able to reference how many Caucausian males between 25 and 30 that make between 30 and 35 Ks a year are married, etc.

Race is supposed to be irrelevant. I believe according to the rules that apply to this its not what race you are its what race you think you are.
So, I tick whatever one I feel like that day. We have to fill in forms all the time at work, it must really hack them off in my personnel dept!

Well this question is not a typical R & S question, but to answer I think its just for statistical purposes.
You get to know the demographics in each city or state of the good old U.S.A.

Probably helps immigration somehow.

In France they're not allowed to ask about race or religion, though they're starting to consider bending that rule.

They also seem really interested in what your religion is as well.
