not necessarily. You need to do cardio excercise to really burn fat. Do this.

1.) Write down the calories you take in on any given day for about 3-4 days. This will give you an idea of what your current habit is. Also write down how many calories you are burning in one day for 3-4 days. (There are calorie calculators online you can go to that will help with this.) When you are taking in more calories than you are expending, your body will store the excess as fat.

2.) Adjust your intake and output so that you burn more than you take in. Obviously, you want to do it the HEALTHY way (don't try to burn 2100 calories a day and take in 200... that's just stupid.). You will mainly want to focus on cardio excercise, but don't be afraid to build some muscle also. The muscle will make you look good and it will also help burn the fat faster.

3.) Try enlisting the help of a personal trainer at a gym. They are there to help you reach your fitness goals and will help you get there in the fraction of a time it would normally take.

4.) Don't focus on the scale, focus on your appearance. Muscle weighs more than fat. If you lose fat and gain muscle, you may think that you aren't getting any better when in all truth you probably are losing fat, but you can't tell by looking at the scale because it is being replaced by muscle at the same time. Be consistant with the goals you set, and over time you will see the results you desire.

I, too, have the same problem...I have found that cardio ( I like walking ) combined with toning like Curves or crunches, etc. combined with a reduction in 'bad' carbohydrates will greatly reduce belly bulk.

For some reason, when I eat sugar and carbs, I instantly gain and puff out in the belly but as soon as I reduce those, the belly gets smaller....but it's still a flabby train wreck :-( so I do a variety of crunches and then walk 2-3 miles several times a week and I notice everything gets smaller.....

When I try one without the other, I don't get nearly the result I do from doing all three...good luck

No, there is no such thing as spot reducing. Work out the entire body and focus on cardio. Also do some strength training with high reps and low weight while also doing your crunches . Hit you abs form all angles and vary all of your exercises. Work you obliques, lower, and upper abdominal to get a well rounded look! Good Luck!

Excess carbohydrates are stored in your midsection. Even though you do crunches you need to do some sort of cardio, too (i.e. running or walking) in order to burn the fat. All the crunches do it stregthen your stomach muscles, which will NOT reduce your waist line. Good luck!!

no. crunches alone will do next to nothing for your mid-section

to decrease the body fat percentage you need to make changes in your diet and exercise daily at a high level of intensity for 60-80 minutes

Crunches alone will not do it. You need to mix aerobic exercise in with the crunches to burn calories. Crunches alone will strengthen your abs but if the muscles are hidden behind fat, you will not see results.

crunches actually make it worse: the stomach muscles make the fat stand out...

work out your large muscle groups like legs and back and you will burn more calories naturally throughout the day even when not exercising....

crunches won't do it, if you want to lose weight you have to do cardio then tone your stomach with crunches.
