I had no food allergies growing up (I'm now 27), but yesterday and today I had a reaction from something in my Chicken Salad. The reaction was worse the second day. I took Benadryl and it helped. If I have developed a new allergy, how do i find out what I'm specifically allergic to? Any input would be appreciated

Yes, you can develop allergies at anytime in life. I am 31 and in the last 6 months developed several serious allergies, including a life threatening allergy to milk. I would advise that you go to your doctor tell him what is happening and ask him to do an allergy test. Food allergies can be diagnosed through a simple blood test. This way you don't need to play around at home and possibly incite an unexpected severe reaction and you will know everything you are allergic to.

Yes, you can develop an allergy any time to something. Also, whenever you try something new or pre-made, it is always wise to try small amounts of it first and see if you have a reaction to it. Give yourself some time for the rash to clear up. Then you might want to try the food again and see if the reaction comes back (keep your Benadryl handy!) If it does, it is highly likely to be that food item.

Yes, you can develop allergies over time, and get rid of them as well, get the ingredients to the chicken salad and eat each thing (small amounts) alone and see what happens. Have Benadryl on hand though, you don't want to hurt yourself. It's way cheaper than allergy testing.

Yes, I became allergic to chicken and turkey when I was 30. My mom also became allergic to poultry when she was about 30.
