it seems like i dont help the situation any though because i've been in a lot of trouble with the state of ks for the past 3 years and i just got back into my home in january. i try really hard to make her happy and please her, but it doesn't seem to work. it doesn't help my self-esteem any when she compares me to my older brothers and sisters. in fact it really hurts!

You have taken the most important step already, realizing that it is not where it could be or at least it could be better. That and the fact that you want it to be better. That shows a lot of maturity on your part and that is awesome. Now what you need to do, is ask her if sometime in the next few days, if she would make some time for you, so that the two of you (only) can go get a coke and talk. I am willing to bet that she feels the same way you do and all that is lacking is one of you to step forward and ask the other to talk. Take the initiative and ask her. You will probably make her day, month and year. Tell her how much she means to you when you go talk and tell her that you would really like to build a stronger bond between the two of you. You can have a nice talk with her and probably put as many of her fears to rest as yours. Just make sure that the two of you go someplace where you can talk with out interruptions and stuff.

Sit down and talk with your step-mom. I think that it will get better if you sit and lay everything on the table. Let her know that she doesn't have to compete with your real mom for your attention and love. Tell her that you love as if she were your real mom. I was the same way you are. I hated my step-mom for the longest time, but then I sat down one day and just talked to her. Now I have a great realtionship with her. I can talk to her about everything and anything. She is always there for me, even though I am 22. Good Luck and I hope this helps.

Try to do the same things you do with your real mom with your step mom but maybe a little different, and tell her you would really like to try and build a relationship with her. Let her know your feelings hurt everytime she compares you to your brothers. 17 is an age you need all the support fro mall that raised you because you are fixing to get out on your own and tell them you would like to know they are there.

Can you talk to your Dad? Tell him you would like to improve the relationship with your step-mother and ask for his help. Let him know that you know you have been in trouble but that it really hurts when you are compared to others.

Good luck honey, step parent relationships are rough.

Maybe you could talk to her about organising a girlie day out (maybe to the salon or on a shopping spree) to improve your relationship. If that doesn't help sit down with her one day and talk about everything you don't know about eachother. Once she see's how fun and loving you can be your relationship will improve!
