I am not in the position to buy a house or townhome just yet, so I still have to rent. I was thinking perhaps it may be a better idea to rent a HOUSE instead of an apartment in an apartment complex, etc., because at least in a house, its "stand alone" and I wont have to worry about neighbors stomping on my head, hearing their noise or being subjected to their bad habits that may disturb other tenants.
ALSO, when I go out to have fun or have company over, or a nice young man to spend time with me, I have more peace, quiet & privacy in a HOUSE than an apartment, and I also would not be embarrassed to have company because I will not be around other tenants' "bad habits & nastiness".
Am I right? Or are there disadvantages to renting a house as opposed to renting an apartment, that I am not aware of?

I rented a house from '88 - '92 and it was nice enough. The downside these days is that's it's generally more expensive to rent than an apartment or condo. The owner would drop in from time to time and find something to complain about (too many lights on, too many cars over, etc) so you become much more visible as a renter in garden style units.

Sounds like you have hit on the major points. Just remember that in an apt. lawn care & snow shoveling are included. You will have to handle your own in a house. Other than that, I would definitely say rent a house over an apartment. Good Luck!

One disadvantage is that the rent is higher. The other is that a bigger place requires more maintenance (more things can go wrong). A bigger place also takes longer to clean, of course.
Sounds like you've made up your mind though. Why not go for it?
