Hey guys. So Im looking to buy a new projector and I don’t know much of anything. If Im going to pick a good one I need to need to most important things to look at to make that decision. Some of my main questions are…

What’s the best brands of projectors?
What is aspect ratio?
What is the recommended amount of brightness, what verges on bad?
What does contrast mean and do?
What are component video inputs and 3LCD display?

If Im forgetting anything that’s key in making a decision then please, tell me so I can be guided in the right path.

I also have this thread started below to make my decision on the projector for me. If you can comment on that also thanks a lot. Very appreciated.

ok 1st question
there is no best brand of projectors really you should just look at the specs
2nd: aspect ratio means like 4:3 is fullscreen and 16:9 is wide
bright ness
3: as in lumens is really kinda important you want to go for a high ## but dont want to go too high or else you will most likely have to pay more for the bulb and it might be too bright to watch
4th contrast ratio's im not shure about but im shure that someone else who answers this qquestion should know
5th: Component video inputs are really just like hi def and and stuff like that
6th when it says 3 lcd that means its an lcd projector
Types of projectors
CRT
LCD
DLP
are the most common although not rallyCRT
crt is like a tv only it is not in a tube
it is not really the best choice
lcd and dlp are the absoulte most common
LCD is like a lcd (flat panel) screen with a bright light behind it
DLP is personally my favorite it involves a process where it shines light though a colored wheel and then puts it on to mirrors. The con about the DLP is that you sometimes get "the rainbow effect" it is like if you would get a hose on a summer day and put it on a mist and spray in the sun and look at it. thats basically what that is although i havent notced that much with my sharp xr10x projector

i hope that pretty much sums it up

Hi. I will try to answer what you want to know.

There is no one best brand there are several excellent brands.

Aspect Ratio is the relationship between the width of a projected image and it's height. For example a normal TV image is :1.33:1 (the width is 1.33 times the height) Widescreen TV is 1.78:1 Movies filmed in Panavision can be either 2.35:1 or 2.2:1.

There is no universal recommended Brightness. All Projectors can increase or decrease the brightness. Some Projectors are very bright which allows viewing in a dimly lit room. While others require total darkness to view a bright image.

The Contrast is the difference between light and dark in the image .A higher contrast setting brightens the light part and darkens the dark part of the image.

Component Video Inputs split the color video signal 3 ways into Red minus luminance. Blue minus luminance and the color difference signal which is Green or luminance Y

Very important :What is your price range
Have you got a projection screen.
Can you darken your room
Do you want one that is closer to the screen.

.Cheers.
